A simple math question that made my brain hurt for a few minutes
(no cats or schoolgirls were harmed in this exercise )

A school bus has seven schoolgirls inside ,
Each girl has seven bags ,
Each bag has seven big cats in it ,
Each big cat has seven little cats
(assume there are no amputees )

How many legs are in the bus ? ( there is no bus driver , I think the reason is obvious :thumbsup: )

I will post the correct answer later or you can pm me if you want

A school bus has seven schoolgirls inside (= 14 legs)
Each girl has seven bags , 7x7 = 49 bags
Each bag has seven big cats in it , 7x49 = 343 cats
Each big cat has seven little cats 7x343 = 2401cats (total cats)
2401x4 = 9604 cats legs
+ 14 girls legs
Total legs = 9618

School girls - 14 legs

Big Cats - 7^3
Small cats 7^4

(7^3+7^4)*4+14
=
10990

It doesn't say whether the little cats are on the bus. There are seven schoolgirls, each with seven bags. In each bag there are seven cats. Each big cat has seven little cats, but the little cats can't be with the big cats in the bags, since there are only seven cats per bag. There are only 343 cats on the bus. So we got 1386 legs. This is all assuming the schoolgirls actually have all their seven bags with them on the bus. The first statement is a little vague, but that is how I'd interpret it.

It is easy to answer: Number of cats - 7^4=2401. 2401×4= 9604, + 14 schoolgirl legs = 9618 legs! But that is solution only if this really is mathematic question! If it is a trick question, then Mr Alpha is wright. It says that each big cat has seven little cats, but that doesn't mean that little cats are in the bus! By the way, there is no chance that all of the cats and schoolgirls can fit in one school bus! :thumbsup: But thanks for the question, it is nice to get my brain back in the function again! :flowers:

Assuming that what the original problem means is that all of the girls/cats/bags are on the bus:

OK so far.
Each girl has seven bags , 7x7 = 49 bags
Still good.
Each bag has seven big cats in it , 7x49 = 343 cats
OK, too - let's remember 343 "big" cats
Each big cat has seven little cats 7x343 = 2401cats (total cats)
Not exactly - 343 big cats X 7 each little cats is 2401, but not 2401 total cats. It's 2401 little cats.

2401x4 = 9604 little cats legs
343x4 = 1342 big cats legs
+ 14 girls legs
Total legs = 10960

Subtract the 9604 little cats legs if they aren't on the bus, as Mr. Alpha suggest, leaving 1356, or go with the 10960 if the little cats have walked back on the bus since we started this discussion.

:thumbsup:

Why does that problem look so different now compared to two in the morning? :thumbsup:

I got 1,555legs.

7 girls * 2 legs= 14legs ---------------------------->14 legs
7 bags * 7 cats = 49 big cats * 4 legs= 196 legs -->196 legs
7 big cats * 7 small cats = 343 small cats * 4legs= 1372 legs
										  +________
											1555 legs

14 legs.

I refuse to multiply or speculate on the number of paws that may or may not be on the bus at any one time.

I got 14 Legs, because it doesn't say that any of those bags with the Cats in them are actually on the Bus.

there are 10,990 legs inside the bus.

- There is a bus with 7 girls inside (7x2=14 legs)

- Each girl (7) has 7 bags, Inside each bag, there are 7 Big cats (7x7x7=343; 343x4=1,372 legs)

- Each Big cat (343) has 7 small cats (343x7=2,401; 2,401x4=9,604 legs)

14 + 1,372 + 9,604 = 10,990 legs

Congrats to all who got it right :flowers: (I got it on the second try, I hate math :thumbsup: )
