I am trying to reinstall windows from the Gateway System Restoration CD. I have followed the instruction precisely, booting from the CD, etc. When the installation process reached the point where the CD is placed in the CD drive the second time, the screen reads that there is no CD or it is the wrong one or the CD is dirty. Not true. Can not get past this point in the installation process. Any help will be appreciated.

The definition of success is the ability to survive failure !

Nothing to the best of my knowledge. Weeks ago I tried to reinstall windows and ran into the same problem but I did not try to fix it.

I had a similar problem once - the client couldn't get the CD to work at all to reinstall Windows. A little poking around in the machine's innards, and I found that the CD drive had been replaced, and the person who installed it ignored the blatant "MASTER" on the ribbon cable and put the jumper on "Slave."

Once I put the jumper on the drive where it belonged, the re-install went fine.

But your case sounds a bit different, since you say the CD worked for the first part of the install . . .
