I have a gateway C&C, my CD-RW felt like it should stop working. Everytime I try to burn anything or try to read anything it never shows a CD in the drive not acknowledgment at all, but the funny thing is my computer says that there is no problem. Obviously my Read-Write Drive is not living up to its name. I know I need to have more information, but sadly I don't know what it is, so if anyone can help It would be much appreciated.

Testing a CD drive usually involves either replacing it with one that's known to be good - or trying it in another system to see if it works there. There are other things to try, such as uninstalling the device in Device Manager (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter) and then rebooting to let Windows re-detect and install it.
