Hi All,

Can any one help me with a problem I've had for some time? My mouse pointer has developed a problem where by I may be pointing to something at the bottom of the screen when suddenly, for no apparent reason, :flowers: the pointer shoots off to some other part of the screen. I can get it back to carry on, only to have it shoot off somewhere else on the screen. This happens every 15-20 seconds for no apparent reason. Any ideas how I can bring this errant pointer to heel?

Many Thanks, John Wingrove

Hi johnwingrove,

First start by cleaning the mouse. Dirt can easily cause the mouse to misbehave.

The number one cause for this behavior in wireless mice is dying batteries. Replace them and see what happens.

For cabled mice, do a quick test to wiggle the cable where it joins the mouse and at the back connector.

If you have a chance, swap your mouse with another.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.
