No Audio Device

I've been through methods used in other threads, but am otherwise unable to rectify the problem. I hope you can help.

Sound was working perfectly up until last week when I formatted the computer and reinstalled Windows. Now there's nothing. I've tried installing the drivers which I think are correct to no avail.

Sorry to sound like many others, but hopefully you can appreciate everyone's setup is different.

What make and model computer do you have? If you have a custom machine, download Belarc Advisor to obtain the information on the devices on the machine.
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently

Multimedia: VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)

VIA Sound Driver Listing

To install the sound drivers for AC97 Sound, you must identify the southbridge chipset first.

Usually MSI's "Live Update" tool works very well to update Motherboard (audio, Video, CPU) Drivers. It's on the link oldf@rt gave

If the MSI download does not work for your sound, you must open the case and read the markings on the VIA chip closest to your SATA Ports to find the chipset number, once you have the chipset number, match it to the corresponding number is the VIA download list and try that one.

Used the Live Update tool, didn't get anywhere.

Verified the model number MS-7191

Tried all of the VIA downloads. Nothing doing.

if so it's not even listed in their main menu for drivers but

evidently an oem release

that's why live update and via drivers don't work

Sorry to intrude of sudden, but im having the same problem as his, and most weird of all, i have the said motherboard installed (the quoted motherboard is the same as mine), the difference is that i use the new windows 7 (actually was a emergency, my hd crashed and i didnt had any windows cd at the moment exept the 7) but now im unable to install sound drivers!

Well, problem over for me at least, i changed windows 7 for the vista... necessity called

I'm kinda new around here, so i hope i'm puttin this in the right place,,if not please direct me to the proper place....
My Window's Media Player, won't reconize any Cd that i try to play.....
a search found that i had a code 19 error???.....Info said that(under Hardware) That it's configuration( in the registry) was either incomplete or damaged
I tried to reregister it and it took, but still no dice????
I'm runnin ...windows xp - home and the windows media player is version #9 I believe....
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
