I'm thinking of getting a Xbox elite or PS3. What do you guys think is better? I can't make up my mind.

Not a gamer, so not sure what to say in regards to your question.
However, for your sig, you might want to change it to be like this:

Using this without the code tags in your signature, looks like this:

Its better for readability and forum posts.

I have read things about the xbox 360 basically melting itself. I do not know about the new elite version.

Ps3 is better all the way around but has less games at the moment but still more than you can afford ha ha.

From a technical aspect, the PS3 is better. However, most people get consoles to play games. Xbox 360 has more games, and is really the best for FPS. I've never been a big fan of those types of games, I'm more of an RPG fan myself. Because of this, I'm sticking to the PS3 for Final Fantasy, Grandia, Suikoden, etc.

Technically the two are pretty close. The PS3 has a better CPU, while the XB360 has a more advanced GPU.
The 360 has been prone to the dreaded three rings of death, but they've extended the warranty to three years now, and the newer models shouldn't suffer from the heatsink problem the old ones did.

Also, the game lineup for the PS3 is non-existent right now. If you're getting a console now and you want games to play for it, then you want a 360. That'll change as titles actually come out for the PS3, but their library is very dry as it is.

I love Xbox and Microsoft. Their games are simply superior to the Playstations. I would recommend getting the Elite. Not only is it cheaper, but you'll have access to better games. And I have never heard of the 360 overheating, but I have heard, and experienced, the flashing red lights. However, Microsoft will fix this problem and as earlier stated, they have increased the warranty and offered refunds to people who have had this problem before a certain date.
When I'm asking for help, please explain, in detail, every step. Thank you :).
I have nightmares about computer glitches and bugs.

I have a 360 and its great. I've heard of many problems with them, but mine hasn't had any in the year that I've had it. My brother plays it constantly too.

Remember, you're buying games not only the system. The best thing to do is to find which system has the most current and upcoming titles you want. Also, compare the features of both the PS3 and XBOX360 and see which best meets them.

I am a fan-girl of Sony; 2 Playstations, and 2 PS2s. *blushing at name brand faithfulness*
But my next platform will most likely be the Xbox 360. (or the Wii)
Unless Sony can impress me with an abundance of new games soon.
I don't agree with paying for a device I can barely use yet.

What about the Wii? Anyone have anything to say about it? I haven't played it yet, but it seems like it would be a different kind of experience. Although I am unsure of the spectrum of games it has to offer.

Look at the games, and pick the system which offers what you want in terms of games. There are no Xbox 360 games that I want, so I don't plan on buying one. And while there are no games I want for the PS3 now, the stuff coming out in the next year makes me think that will be the my future system of choice. Its all about the games, my friend; pick the system that will give you the most joy.

The Wii is currently in the same kind of gaming drought that the PS3 is in, game library wise. It's the console you'd want if you have a lot of friends visiting regularly though, it's an ideal party machine. If you're usually playing by yourself or playing online, you're better off with a 360 for the time being, though.

Well I had many problems with both XBOX and XBOX 360. I eventually gave up on it, and now proudly own a Wii and hopefully a PS3 soon enough
