Hey guys

Im havin some real wack problems with my computer,
whenever i boot it up it goes to the desktop but imeediatly -

"EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in

will come up. It just goes to that active desktop recovery thingy and seems ok.
Whenever i open up any program say: Msn Messenger it says Msn Messenger has performed an illegal operation. same with any program (word, powerpoint , flash)
I recently installed the latest Nvidia Drivers
I have run Spybot s & D
AdAware SE
Norton Antivirus 2005
and there seems to be nothing getting detected

Im running
Windows 98 SE
Pent III 700mhz
Geforce 4 mx 440 with AGP 8x

what are the specs for the video card ?

Specs would be size and name brand of the video card. Like specs in pc language means like the "fine print" or the "details" about it.

To find out the details or specs about your video card go to start hit run and type dxdiag.

Then when it loads hit "display" To your left when that page loads tell us like size of it and name brand.

The video card I read in some cases can cause this so if you can give us any details on it we can further the research.

Its similar to your problem. Infact if you type what you gave us at google you will find pages of stuff like this.

o.k heres the specs

Name: Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP 8x
Memory: 64.0 MB

im pritty sure it has somethin to do with the graphics card cos when im doing 3d images and 3d animation and you move everything really fast or change something to fast to soon it seems to crash the program.

It could well be then according to your testing. Have you tried to play a game on it and see what happenes? I think maybe its just some settings that might be wrong here.

I just thought of something else. What version of direct x do you have? If you need to test your video card on way is to go to start/run/type DXDIAG/hit ok

When that screen comes up go to DISPLAY tab at the top and click it.

Take a look at this screenshot for help on what you should look for and what to do.



Please look to the right and make sure all direct X features are enabled.

If not click the "enable" buttons.

Then to test the video card and direct x look to the right and click on both of the test buttons.

Its will go through a few tests. After done at the bottom where it says notes you can see the results if all tests work there will be nothing wrong there.

i ran dxdiag and did those two tests without failure

Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D 9 test results: All tests were successful.

and the AGP texture acceleration box is disabled and ghosted out.

any ideas???????

do we have to call in a video technician here????? lol

did this problem only occur after installing the nvidia card ?

have u thought of installing a substitute card (temporarily) to see if the same error messages come up ?

no ive had the geforce in for ages
i thought it could maybe be , that i updated the drivers
and downloaded direct x 9
could this be my problem?

I've found that with an older system you are best to stick with the drivers that came with the card rather than getting the latest drivers. The latest drivers work best with the latest systems. Do you still have the original drivers?

i should have!!!
i just downgraded the drivers to some 44.03 driver, which i found on some other site , and they said it was one of the best for the MX440 version, and i installed it and all that, but it still shuts (flash, internet, explorer and notepad) down. ill try and put it back to the old drivers ( if i can find em')
Do you have to uninstall older drivers first?
My fonts on google, ebay and yahoo are all larger! does this have anything to do with my problem?

Uninstall the drivers from add/remove programs and then uninstall the video adapter in device manager. Then reboot and when Windows finds the Adapter click cancel and when it finishes booting you would install the driver if its an .exe.
