BleepingComputer.com: Reinstall Clean Copy Of Vista

I upgraded my XP to vista a couple of weeks ago (big mistake , yeah i no )

And as usual most of my drivers and programs arent compatable and are causing tons of problems. So i wanted to reintall vista as a clean install rather than cary over everything , but everytime i do it , the dl restarts at 27% while "expanding files" to the BSOD.

I dont know much , but after looking around , it seems to be a driver problem with some software. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of computer do you have? (desktop, notebook, and which model?)

If it's a desktop try removing as many non-essential peripherals as you can. Like extra hard drives, extra CD/DVD drives, and anything on a PCI slot. You want to have just the basic stuff installed.

I have a Desktop. Dell XPS 410.

Can you tell me how to remove that stuff. Im not sure how.

If you dont know how to remove it, Then you must not have added it. Don't worry about the non-essential peripherals.

Read here it will tell yo how to reinstall Vista Clean With your Upgrade Cd. Click here Make sure to back up any thing you want to keep as you will Delete every thing on the computer, Files/Photos/Programs After you finish you can put all your files and programs back on.

It appears that your Dell comes with SATA hard drives - as such, you'll have to have the SATA drivers (for the controller on your motherboard) available on media during the installation (so the install routine can load them).

As for usasma , i carried all the drivers when i upgraded to vista. And i see the RAID in the bios so...

I wrote down the tecnical info for the BSOD:

The link that you provided states that this is a driver issue. The most common causes (IME) for these things are the SATA drivers (I'm currently fighting them on an Intel motherboard myself). BUT, it can be other drivers that cause this - it's just that I think the SATA one's are most likely to cause the problem. An upgrade does not guarantee that the process will be problem free (so I recommend against it) - but rather it attempts to save your data and programs and may do so at the expense of system stability.

I got a better question. Is the OS stored on the hard drive? If i replaced the hard drive , could i just install xp on that one , and rid vista?

Theoreticaly it will work the only issue is that trying to re-activate the OS through Microsoft might be a problem, I am not sure that they will let you because it is a different harddrive.
