Gooday all. I want to delete the software for my phone. I go to control panel/Add or remove program, highlight the thingy, press delete and the following msg appears, "setup exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. you may loose any data you were working on, sorry blah". How should I deal with this?
Thanks in advance, Regards, James.

What "phone" software is it?

Does it have it's own "uninstall" program?

Samsung zg510. Checked the disc and it has nothing about uninstall. I have deleted all the samsung files from the computer but it still shows up in "Add/ remove" There are a couple of others in there too, that won't go away. It's no biggy. Just like to keep it tidy.

In general, most software has an uninstall program - either through "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel, a third party uninstall utility, or through a specific uninstall routine provided by the software vendor. The one from the vendor could be on the install disk, in the folder where the program was installed on the PC, or maybe on the vendor's website available only by download.

It's entirely possible that the only way you are going to find it would be to re-install the software.

You could simply clean up that entry in "Add/Remove" - this MS KnowledgeBase Article How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add/Remove Programs List describes a registry editing method to do it.

OK, maybe not "simply", but it can be done.

Did you just delete the samsung files, or did you uninstall the program first, then delete the left over files?
You should always uninstall a program first, before deleting any files, otherwise you'll have a lot of files, and registry entries floating around that aren't associated to any program.

Try reinstalling the program, then using Add/Remove to uninstall it.
Better yet, after reinstalling the program, go to the programs folder in the Program Files (C:\Program Files\....), look for an uninstaller, and try that, first.
If there's no uninstaller, use Add/Remove.

For removing obsolete programs from Add/Remove, after properly uninstalling them, check out this link:
How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add/Remove Programs List

But then the site loads as normal. Why is it so???

Fozzie, FF is the default browser. In Properties the web doc url is ms/index.php?&&&code=autologin&fromreg=1. Don't know if that tells you anything. Anyhoo, the damn thing is not doing it this morning. Regards James.
