I have already visited the dell forum and received some sound advice, though the regular indicated I should post here as well. After following some of the guidance it seems I have gotten rid of the Agobot worm and soundtask.exe is no longer running. However, there seems to remain several problems, not the least of which is something referred to as BonziBuddy. This is found every time I run the SpyWare Doctor free scan. I apologize for the length of the post, though wanted to provide as much detail as possible. Following is my post on the dell forum, my HJT log and the reply from the individual helping me. I have yet to purchase the SpyWare Doctor software, though am inclined to if it solved the problem. Please advise.

HJT Log
Our computer has four users. One user login is unable to access the internet through our dsl connection. While logged in under this user the computer slows to a halt and cpu usage is 100%. I am unable to delete cookies as well as files in internet folder due to a .dat file. Individually deleting cookies creates greater problems. They copy and multiply. I ran many of the following spyware/adware software through Boss login for two reasons. This logon does not seem to be infected and many of the following procedures stalled while running under Sue login.

First ran anti-virus software on both logins and nothing was found (of note I also have a firewall from Zonealarm)

Then ran CWShredder, the following info was recorded:
System Info Windows XP (5.01:2600SP1)
Windows dir C:\Windows
Windows System dir: C:\Windows\System 32
AppData Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Boss1
Application Data
Found Hosts File: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts(732 bytes,A)
Shell Registry Value: HKLM\..\WinLogon {Shell} Explorer.exe
Userlnit Registry Value: HKLM\..\WinLogon{userlinit} C:Windows\System32\userinit.exe
Found Win.inifile: C:\Windows\wim.ini {640bytes,A}
Found System.ini file: C:\Windows\system.ini {231 bytes.A}
Then ran Spybot and received the following info:
DSO Exploit 5 Entries
Hkey_users\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=w=3
Hkey_users\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=w=3
Hkey_users\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=w=3

Hkey_users\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=w=3

Then ran Ad-aware and received the following info:
Cookie:boss@tribalfusion
Cookie:[email protected]
Cookie:[email protected]
Cookie:[email protected]

Then ran TrojanHunter:
Found nothing

Of interest:
Ran free scan by SpyWare Doctor and they found 25 problems. One was Altnet Software (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DownloadManager). The other 24 were all the same: BonziBuddy(HKLM\software\classes\interface\{065e6fd2-1bf9-11d2-bae8-00104b9e0792}). I am inclined to purchase this software, though am reluctant if it does not fix the problem. Had the previous programs run the fixes though problems still exist.
Very grateful for any assistance. Following is the HijackThis log.

Hello mblock, Welcome to Dell Community forum. A quick look at you log indicates you have a nasty infection.
This is what it looks like in the log: O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [scvhost.exe] scvhost.exe
This is information about this virus: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas...ibrary/scvhost/
This item is also added by the AGOBOT.VQ WORM see this link: http://computercops.biz/startuplist-5672.html and looks like this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [soundtask] soundtask.exe
and this one: http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyc...=WORM_AGOBOT.VQ Both appear again in Run Services:
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [soundtask] soundtask.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [scvhost.exe] scvhost.exe
There are a few miner issues that need to be addressed, but these are the critical ones. I am also going to suggest (I see you have Spybot) that these are both free and perhaps the best a removing many of the malware issues you encounter. The software should be the current version and updated, configured and run often to be successful, and the price is right. Here are links to all the information you need:
Ad-aware:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=48
Spybot:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=43
While there might be someone here at Dell that can help you with this problem, I will make a suggestion. I suggest you look at this link: http://www.a-sap.org/
To help you choose from that list,
TomCoyotes contains the anti-malware school - Classroom.
SpyWareInfo contains the anti-malware school - BootCamp.
Net-Intergration is the support site of Spybot S&D.
Lavasoft Support is the support site of Ad-aware.
Wilders Security has since stopped hijackthis log support due to the lack of experienced helpers.
Others that I would recommend (with possibly shorter response times)
but generally all those on that list will have experts to help you.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/
http://www.subratam.org/
http://www.zerosrealm.com/
http://maddoktor2.com/index.php

Texruss and ChrisRLG are Teachers at The TomCoyote Forum.

suggest you go here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-logs/
Register and read the Pinned items at the top that apply, then post your log. You may mention that you were referred at Dell if you wish, and it might help if you post a link to this thread in the original post there so they can see what suggestions I have already made.
I wish you all the best at getting your computer clean.

I have merged these topics. Mblock, when posting replies, please post to the original topic and do not create a new one. It makes it harder for us to provide you support.

Thanks. Cryo will help you when he becomes available

Hi :thumbsup:

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Download Ad-aware SE 1.05: here
Install it. When you get the last screen, with the "Finish" button and 3 options, uncheck those three items.
Open AdAware and click the "Check for updates now" link. Close AdAware. Don't use it yet.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [soundtask] soundtask.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [soundtask] soundtask.exe

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

Search for these files and delete them if found:
soundtask.exe <-- this file

Run AdAware, press the "Start" button, uncheck "Scan for negligible risk entries", select "Perform full system scan" and press "Next". Let AdAware remove anything it finds. When Ad-Aware has finished press the "Show Logfile" button, right click the "Results list" (log), save the log on your Desktop.

With all windows and browsers closed.
Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet Files.
A. Open System Security Suite.
B. In the Items to Clear tab thick:
- Internet Explorer (left pane): Cookies & Temporary files
- My Computer (right pane): Temporary files & Recycle Bin
Press the Clear Selected Items button.
Close the program.

REBOOT normally.

Run HijackThis! again and post a new log. Attach also the Ad-Aware log (press the "Browse ..." button to attach a file to your message).
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Thanks but the other user on our computer is still locked up (moving very slow, can't access any programs or internet...just stalls). I rebooted the computer in safe mode and ran a hijackthis log off the administrator site. My login, I thought anyways, had administrator rights. Though when I ran the new log, I noticed that the files we initially deleted, redclientapps.yahoo, were present. My inclination was to do the same process we just did, just under the administrator login...though figured this was not the time to pretend that I knew what I was doing. Please view the new log and advise. Thank You.

I am unable to run hijackthis under the user that is affected. When I am in safe mode I have access to Administrator and my login (which I assume has administrator rights over the other logins). When I reboot normally I don't have the option to login into the Administrator, just mine and the other logins. Here is the fresh log from my login. I apologize if I'm misunderstanding.

Is it because the limited account ?

Your last log looks clean.

Can gain access to her desktop through her login. Once I'm at her home page I can press the "Start" key on her toolbar. Though everything I click from there on will not open...just returns me to her desktop. Same applies to icons on her desktop. I can double click them, have an hour glass momentarily, then nothing. I'm not opposed to deleting this user all together and setting up another...if I can do it and safely. I'm not familiar with the "limited account" though everything done under this user is very slow.

Hi

Can gain access to her desktop through her login. Once I'm at her home page I can press the "Start" key on her toolbar. Though everything I click from there on will not open...just returns me to her desktop

Tell me please if you can run this registry script.

Copy the contents of the Quote box to Notepad, and save in a location of your choice as RepairRes.reg (make sure to save as type: "All Files")

Doubleclick RepairRes.reg, and answer 'yes' when prompted to add its contents to the Registry, then restart your computer.

Regedit 4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"RestrictRun"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"DisallowRun"=-

If you can not open Notepad.exe rename it --> notepad.com --> notepad.scr
