I've ran some programs in compatibility mode and it seems to have fixed most of my blue screen issues, but I still get the blue screen of death maybe once every two days; I'm new here so I'm not really sure where to begin. Also as I I have another account on my laptop named John, and it keeps coming back after I delete it. This isn't really a big problem I guess, but it's odd. I feel like there's something wrong with my laptop, and hopefully I can fix it here. For the most part my laptop works, It's just annoying to get the blue screen of death when my laptop should be perfectly fine. I bought it only a few weeks ago. It was refurbished however.

Some errors I've received

Kernel Security Check Failure

Bad Pool Header

Page Fault in Nonpaged Area

Attempted Execute of noexecute memory

system thread exception not handled dxgmms1.sys windows 8

There are a handful of others but I've only got them once or twice

Any sort of warranty?  If so, I'd take the thing back.

I contacted the MSI company, and hopefully will receive a response soon. I was hoping for a fix though. It doesn't seem to be a serious problem. It's a hindrance really. I feel like it could be fixed easily :/ Where should I begin if I want to find out what's wrong, and get help

Hi

A blue screen issue can be caused either by hardware or software reasons.  Since the laptop is brand new, i suspect a compatibility issue caused by an old driver or software rather than a hardware failure.

Please follow the below steps.

:step1: Upload the actual crash dump files.

You will find the crash dump files inside C:\Windows\Minidump folder. To copy the dumps, disable "User Account Control" first. Otherwise you may receive a permission error. After disabling UAC, copy and zip all the dumps and create an archive. Either attach the zip with next reply using "More reply options --> Attach files" or use a free file hosting site.

:step2: Publish a snapshot of your system using Speccy.

"Speccy" is a free tool which can list the hardware specs, temperature status, installed Windows updates, HDD SMART info etc of your system. Please read the below tutorial to know how to use "Speccy" to collect system info.

Don't paste the output displayed by "Speccy" here. Instead paste the web link it displays.

:step3: Minitoolbox log.

"Minitoolbox" can list all the installed programs as well as event log errors in your system. Download "Minitoolbox" from the below link.

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

List last 10 Event viewer errors
List installed program
List users, partition and memory size
List Minidumps

Now click "Go" and post the output displayed in next reply.

Hi

The only crash dump you uploaded doesn't show anything solid. However, the event log errors shows issues caused by Killer Ethernet Service.

There is a known issue exists in some MSI laptops which is caused by the "Killer Ethernet Service". So as a first step, please follow instructions from the below link to fix this issue.

http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3054

If the blue screens continues, please zip and upload the entire contents of Minidump folder. I need all the dumps to find a pattern in the crashes.

Done! Also, I'm not quite sure if I'm zipping it correctly.

All I have in it is

Minidump_zps2128e28b.png

and when I right clicked it, went to winzip and tried to "add to 010114-22078-01.zip" I received

"Action: Add (and replace) files

Hi

If you are using CCleaner or Windows disc cleanup, please stop using them untill the issue is resolved. Those programs will delete the crash dumps to save disk space !.

You can copy all the dumps to a temporary folder (ie, D:\MyDumps ) and zip that folder to avoid errors.

Hi

The last crash dump you uploaded shows graphic related issues.

BugCheck 1000007E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff88003e1e7e5, fffff880031717d8, fffff88003171010}

Probably caused by : dxgmms1.sys ( dxgmms1!VIDMM_GLOBAL::IsAllocationTerminated+21 )

Please try updating the Nvidia Display Driver to the newest. First uninstall the current driver completely from the system ( all components including 3D Vision , Physx  etc). Then download and install the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/70187/en-us

If the BSOD continues, wait until you got two or more crashes and upload the dumps. Also check whether you can reproduce the BSOD by doing a specific task or running a specific app.

Thanks so much! I definitely have noticed less BSODs. I tried to find BSODS by doing things that normally cause' it like listening to pandora or watching anime, but I didn't

However, I did get a couple more BSOD

Hi

None of the crash dumps blames any third party drivers and all seems to show varying stop codes blaming legit Windows files. Usually this type of behaviors are  caused by hardware failures , ie failing RAM etc.

Please try the below steps.

1. Update LAN/WiFi driver.

Please uninstall Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth Suite (64) (Version: 8.0.0.222) and Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager (Version: 6.1.0.550) first. Then download and install the latest version from the below link.

http://www.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-16693.html

2. If the BSOD continues, please enable Driver Verifier as per instructions from http://www.sysnative.com/forums/bsod-crashes-kernel-debugging/29-driver-verifier-blue-screen-of-death-related.html

"Verifier" will stress test all third party drivers and will cause a blue screen immediately when it detects a violation. Hopefully the crash dump will contain name of the offending third party driver which makes the system unstable. Due to the stress it creates, the system may experience sluggishness/slow. After you got two or more BSOD, please upload the latest crash dumps with next reply.

If the "Verifier" enabled dump still seems to blame legit Windows files, then we got a hardware issue.

Hi, I tried to reinstall them but shortly after it would stop working.

When I checked under device manager, under

Killer Wireless- N 1202 (2.4 GHZ and 5GHZ) #3

it would say This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I had to system restore to where we re-installed the NVIDIA Graphic driver to get online.

Hi

I guess the driver i posted might be the wrong one. So let's skip that step and proceed to activate "Driver Verifier". Once you got more than one BSOD after enabling that, please upload the crash dumps with next reply.

Btw, make sure the system restore didn't enabled the "Killer Service" we disabled earlier.

Yup, it's still disabled

I had to system restore because the second I logged in I got a BSOD. Each time it was error driver_verifier_detected_violation though.

Do you think it would help to update to windows 8.1?
