Just yesterday my computer started freezing during startup.

We haven't been having any issues with it. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite L755. an i3-2310M processor with 4gb of RAM 64bit Operating System. Windows 7 Home Service Pack-1.

We took a trip to the beach and used a power converter  in the car so we could use the computer to watch movies. I didn't think anything could happen because of that, but the next day it started freezing. If it would start it would be extremely sluggish and usually freeze when opening any processes. I ran a RAM check and it came up ok, as did System Check, and It regularly gets virus checks with Malwarebytes and McAfee. I even have Comodo Firewall installed. I can start in safe mode w/ networking without an issue.

Please Help,

Fofler

Are you referring to this System Check?

What tool did you use, please?  Exact name and developer.

@ hamluis -

The Satellite laptop has a "System Check" quite often as an icon in the tray (mine has one).

This may be the one that Folfer means.

@ Folfer -

Can you please OK if my statement above is correct for you.

Thank You -

Sorry it was the "Disk Check" in the Tools tab on the drive properties. The RAM Check, was one that was on the boot up screen...i had to press an F Key at startup to get to it...I can't remember which it was. I also ran the startup repair when it failed to start up. I haven't downloaded anything to run the checks. They have all been built into the computer.

So...does the system boot right now in normal mode?  It's not clear to me from your responses.

If it freezes...at what point does the freeze occur?  Any onscreen error messages?

If possible, do the following.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log

  List Installed Programs

List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link.

It's finicky in normal mode. If loaded in safe mode it doesn't have any issues. It isn't freezing at startup as much since I've been running the tests in safe mode. It doesn't have any issues starting in safe mode. It is still freezing once in a while on startup, when it happens its during the "Windows Loading" screen. But, its still freezing when loading up. I can't say 100% that its freezing, it could just be getting stuck in a loop. I left the computer for over an hour and it didn't load. It doesn't pop up with any errors or anything, it just doesn't get passed the loading screen before the user login.

Most of the issues now happen after user login when you get to the desktop. If you get past startup I can login without much issue, and it usually loads up the desktop fine. However, as soon as I start and programs or processes the computer usually freezes. It's weird, when it freezes I leave it alone, and once and a while it will work itself out. What I started doing that seems to kick it out of being stuck is force hibernating it. I close the lid and make it hibernate, then I log back in and that helps kick it out. If that doesn't work I have to hard reset the computer. If I can get past the first freeze the computer usually doesn't freeze up again. Like I said its weird.

I've started shutting the computer down whenever we are not using it. We were having more issues with sleeping the computer instead of shutting it down.

I'll run the tests you suggest and get back to you.

CPU    Intel Core i3 2310M @ 2.10GHz:      75 °C      Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

The listed max temp for that CPU is 85Celsius, so I'd be a tad concerned if it were my system.  Even for a laptop and Intel CPU...that emperature seems high, IMO.  For comparative purposes only...my Samsung laptop reflects a CPU temp of 40Celsius.  Generally, there is nothing to be concerned about if a recorded temp is 50Celsius or less, IMO.

Overheating is one of the more common causes of system freezes.

COMODO Internet Security (Version: 5.5.64714.1383)
McAfee Security Scan Plus (Version: 3.0.318.3)
McAfee SecurityCenter (Version: 11.6.511)

McAfee reflects errors in Event Viewer....I would uninstall and keep it off the system.  There should only be one AV application installed on any system and you have Comodo Internet Seccurity installed.

If it is a temp issue, why would it just now start up. If it is a temp issue do i need to get a better fan? or how do i keep it better regulated?

I'll take McAfee off

I didn't say that it was a temperature issue...I only posted my thoughts on what you have posted thus far and...my experiences with my own systems..

If you've been doing hard shutdowns...the boot files could easily be damaged.  The fact that you don't encounter any issues when using safe mode...could mean malware, could mean a startup entry is damaged/missing...could indicate a hardware problem.  Those are the possibilities that I can think of.

We don't troubleshoot malware situations in this forum...and I try to interpret the data posted by you and the errors noted/documented.

You haven't indicated any onscreen error messages when it freezes...soooo...there's not a lot to go on that I see.

But...mine are not the only eyes and brain in this forum...let's see if someone else has any ideas :).

Thanks for the help,

Should I repost under the malware forum, or where would the best place to go?

As I previously asserted....let's see what a few other minds might think...in this forum...before we go off into other possiblities.

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When autoscan is done (screen comes up), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

Not sure if I've done this right. Only one crash came up. I assume the scan ran when I opened it. I couldn't find a button to run another scan.

Here's the BSOD
