Hi,

After spending hours trying different techniques to get rid of qv06.com from starting up in my browser (chrome) instead of my google homepage what ended up being the solution was the most obvious thing.

On the qv06 homepage/searchpage that annoying continued to appear when I launched chrome they have a link to "uninstall qv06".. After going to the info page I had done the first two things, but not the third and this was what actually (FINALLY) got rid of it:

(For Chrome although the versions from other browsers was there too)

1. Go to customize and control Google Chrome in the top right hand corner of the screen. Under the x button it is a button with 3 horizontal lines.

Go to settings, then go to "On startup" you'll see a blue link to "see pages".. click that.

Add the new website page as www.google.com and after adding it make it the selection and delete what is there now (probably something to do with qv06)

2. Go back to the same place, this time in settings go to "search" you'll see "manage search engines"..click that.

This time make Google the default and delete the crap that is there now.

3. This point is what I just did to finally get rid of qv06: Get out of the internet and go to the icon for the browser you usally use to access the internet. In my laptop I have a Chrome icon on my desktop I click to go online.. Right-click on that icon and go to properties at the very bottom.

In properties you'll see 6 tabs at the top of the page.. General, security, details etc.. Click on "shortcut". Look for the box that says target and then if you look at what's actually in that box there's two parts. The first part is good, and you want to keep it.  "C:\Users\Catnes\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe".. That's the first part in my computer.. the next part is what is screwing with your browser.. it should start with http:// or www and then should most likely be qv06.com/blah blah blah.. delete this part. Click apply and voila should be fixed.

Good Luck! I absolutely despise these viruses/browser hijackers, what a waste of a nice afternoon!

Hi - I just signed up specifically to thank xcyte for this post. After wasting an hour I googled and found his explanation. It worked and saved me a lot of time. I absolutely hate this kind of intrusive software so thanks again.

Thanks for posting this solution.  Seems to me that all of the other so-called solutions I read on other streams included downloading tools to resolve (none of which worked) but yours did!

Thanks a million!

Again xcyte has not been active since May...he probably only registered to make this single post.

So you are welcome on behalf of the Bleeping Community.

BTW, xcyte's instructions are for Google Chrome.

For Internet Explorer and Firefox, refer to this more recent topic: How to Remove Qvo6.com Browser Hijacker

Thanks to everyone for you appreciation and kind words!.. The Mod is right, I did only sign up to make this post.. and that was because this took up a whole Sunday afternoon trying to fix it and it drove me crazy.

I'm glad to have helped people with this, when I had this problem I couldn't find ANYWHERE that listed a genuine real way to get rid of QV06..

Hopefully this thread is read by a lot more people in the future,

Peace
