I have the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100 and it makes a noise when it "finds" something. At least that is my theory. When I was running a scan I looked at some of the other tabs. I clicked on the Scheduler Settings tab and received an error that states: THis feature is only available to licensed users. Then it make "the NOISE"

My computer has been making noises for a while now. it seems to only happen when I am online. I thought it might have been only when the Malware was outdated but I am up to date.

How do I turn off the notifications or whatever it is taht makes the makes the beeping?

Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I have the free software and have never heard a noise from it...

Hello and Welcome -
Have you recently installed Malwarebytes Anit-Malware and are you using the "Trial Version" ?
You may see a "pop-up" showing that a site was blocked, but that is all.
There still should not be a sound, even if this version is installed -

If you wish further information the General Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Forum may be able to assist further -

Thank You -

Do you have MBAM running in the background when you are online? If so, don't close it out and don't run it. See if the noise continues when MBAM is not active.

Hello noknojon. Thanks for the welcome and the answer. Hmm. I wonder. I am also using AVG 2012 free version. That is the one that gives me the popup window showing that it has blocked something. I figured that one was okay becasue the box is not accompanied by sound.

Queen Evie -  Not sure what an MBAM is? Is that an add on or plug in? How would I find out?

If the Anti-virus things aren't making the sounds, what else could be causing my sporadic noise/beep/chiming? it sounds like two rich tones vs a beep.

I think you might be referring the system sounds that Windows makes when a program finishes or clicking a program that has window open that must be closed first. You can modify that under Control Panel\Sounds

@ Q-Evie -

Note - "I have the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" this is not runninging in the background, unless doing a scan.

The normal "System Sounds" as above (by DS-K) is a much better reply for the sounds.

There has been requests at MBAM to add extras like a "beep" if you run the Pro Version, but there is currently no sound from MBAM scans.

The FAQ and KB items @ MBAM do not list any such sounds, so it is not MBAM related -

Hi kyd1967 -

" it sounds like two rich tones vs a beep." If you can be a little more specific, it sounds more like Operating System problems.

Some makes of computer have specific Beeps etc to notify you of problems.

I will check if ACER have any similar notification method -

Thank You -

Search in Google for "void.wav", which, no surprise, is a .wav file of "no noise".

Control Panel > Sounds > Windows > Notification - replace with void.wav

Enjoy MBAM notifications silently!

I have the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100

You are using a very outdated version from 12/27/12. There have been several program updates since then.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has been updated to v2.00.0.1000. Please download and install the most current version from here (alternate download link).

Quietman, is v.2.0 a freeware version?  I think I read somewhere it is the new premium version and subscription cost is $24.95 per year.  I may be confusing this with a different program.  I updated MBAM Free just this morning to v. 1.75.0.1300.

2.0 comes in two flavors...Free and Premium (formerly called Pro)

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 Free
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 Premium

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 Blog Announcement
Introducing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0
FAQs: What does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 mean for me?

Just like with previous versions, for those downloading MBAM the first time, it comes with a 14-day trial version. The Malwarebytes Team is still in the process of updating all the links on various pages so some folks may be downloading the old 1.75 version before the link is updated. That's why I provided the alternate link which I know is the correct 2.0 download.

Just look at the file name before downloading and saving...it should be mbam-setup-2.0.0.1000.exe
