Hey all, I'm brand new here; found you through Google. I've seen a few similar problems floating around, but not this one exactly, so I hoped you all could help me out!

First, here's a bit about my PC:

It's an eMachines (ugh), I believe model ET1831-03. I've made a few modifications, so I'll just post the basic info I found for that model and edit as necessary.

Processor: Intel Pentium dual-core E5300(2.6GHz)
Memory: 4GB DDR2
Hard Drive: 750GB SATA Crashed, replaced with WD Black 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7050 Integrated Graphics Upgraded, GeForce 9800 GT
Audio: High-Definition Audio with 7.1 Channel Audio Support Mysteriously not working, ASUS Xonar DG on the way from Newegg
Power Supply: 250W Upgraded when I replaced the graphics card to... I believe a 400W? Could be more, I forget, but hoping to upgrade this further in a few months.
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Reinstalled Windows 7 Professional on new HDD after crash

If I missed something in there, let me know. I'm not the greatest with this kind of stuff.

Okay, so, back in August, my computer decided it didn't want to go past start up anymore after several months of about weekly BSODs. I tried running the Startup Repair several times, but it would just freeze up and I had to shut it off. I tried using the Windows 7 disc to repair, still nothing. Put the HDD in an enclosure, couldn't access anything.

To get things rolling again, I got a new HDD a few days ago. I reinstalled Windows 7, this time Professional edition because I couldn't find my original eMachines disc and a friend had a couple copies of Professional lying around (his family works with computers).

The first thing I noticed was that my audio does not work at all. I've tried updating drivers, several pairs of speakers/headphones, front and back ports... nothing works. After letting Windows get caught up on updates, because I thought maybe that would fix things somehow, I finally gave up and went ahead and ordered a sound card (pretty sure mine is integrated). It is currently on its way, but if the problem is solvable without it, I'd certainly be fine with returning it.

I am not sure if my audio issues are related to my other problem, which worries me even more: every time I open uTorrent, I get a BSOD within a few minutes -- sometimes seconds. Thus far, I have yet to get a BSOD without this being the case, and after some testing, I think I can safely say that it is definitely triggered by the torrent client. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling uTorrent, still blue screened upon importing torrents. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling BitTorrent instead -- basically just rebranded uTorrent, but whatever -- still blue screened upon importing torrents. I don't see how it could be the clients themselves, as I've used uTorrent for years with no issue, so it seems to me it might be some process/driver/otherthing that is stressed by a torrent client or something. But... I dunno. And I don't know how to fix that. So... here I am.

I attached a .txt with the BSOD info. I don't know what to make of that stuff, so I hope you guys can help me out. I've tried running Startup Repair off the Windows disc (found nothing) and sfc /scannow. I don't know what else to do.

Thank you for your time and eventual help. I hope I was clear with all my information. Let me know if there's anything I somehow left out.

Hello and Welcome -
Is there a special reason for using any of the Torrent programs, or do you just d/load music etc ??

First -
Fully uninstall any version of any Torrents programs that you have installed.

Next -
Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
List devices >>(Problem only)<<
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt) in your next reply -

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Finally -
Post a snapshot with Speccy as this may give us a bit more to look at -
Publish a Snapshot using Speccy << Follow These Directions

Thank You -

I suppose there's no "special" reason, but there was a particular visual novel which is distributed via torrent that I'd been hoping to re-download, and I was also eventually going to see if I could find .iso files for some of the programs I lost the discs to -- didn't figure I'd need them again -- and no longer have due to the crash.

I don't know how to make this next part much more presentable than the wall of text it is (I tried?), but here's the results of MiniToolBox.

I don't know how to make this next part much more presentable than the wall of text it is

Hi -
Just make sure that you do not use Code or Quote tags when you post logs, and open Notepad to make sure you have Format > Wordwrap unchecked.
No major problem, but plain text is easier to read :)

Thanks -

Hi -
I think that you may notice that all these problems started at the time you reinstalled -
Installation Date: 11 January 2013 - From here you had errors .........

First -
Note - Hosts content: Area is empty, this is usually caused by a minor infection or by changing your settings -
Go here M/soft Fixit click Run for the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Next -
Can you install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free and SuperantiSpyware Free and run a quick scan, then post the logs back here -

Next -
Go to Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and follow the instructions for the Hard Drive test on the page

See if This Computer is your machine (just for general information) ?

Do you normally use a PS/2 mouse, as the device is shown as not present or is not working properly ??

Add any other info if you wish, or ask any other questions also -

Thank You -

The sound card arrived today, and I now have functional audio! Don't know what went wrong with the integrated bits, but at least I can hear things now. I would still like to figure out what the problem is with uTorrent, though. I ran the Fix It, and it said it was "processed", whatever that means. I installed both MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware, and both quick scans came up empty. My drive passed the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, and yes, that appears to be my computer. I use a wireless USB mouse.

Is there any chance that all of this could be fixed by changing a setting in uTorrent? All I got out of the BSOD data was that something might be up with hal.dll and maybe ntoskrnl.exe is something. Can you translate what that means?

Yes, I did delete uTorrent, and no, I never implied I was using a pirated copy of anything. I stated plainly that I was given Windows 7 Professional by a friend whose family works with computers and had a spare copy. Regardless, I do still have my own product key on the side of my computer, so I could have reinstalled Home Premium if I'd had a disc for it handy. I'm here for help, not to defend myself.

I reinstalled Windows 7, this time Professional edition because I couldn't find my original eMachines disc and a friend had a couple copies of Professional lying around (his family works with computers).

Hi -
This is what jburd1800 is refering to - Your system may never work correctly with outside Pro Disks being used for the reinstall.
You are better to try and contact eMachines for replacement install Disks that suit your original installed system.

The product key on the side of your computer is for a version that is not a Pro Version, which is an Upgrade to your previous installed version, and not original.
You should try and only reinstall with your own Disks, or if it was OEM, you need eMachine reinstall Disks.

No personal offence was intended, but you need to get the reinstall correct, or you will continue to have problems (your friend should know this).

Thank You -

Thank you noknojon, you said it far better than I did.

I understand, but for clarification, he gave me both the disc AND product key for Professional. I did not use my Home Premium key with the Professional disc. This is a brand new hard drive that I bought blank. Are you saying that the rest of the system itself is not compatible with upgraded Windows 7? As in, if my computer had never crashed and I'd decided to upgrade to Professional from Home Premium, it would still be giving me issues? Because if so, wow, eMachines computers are even worse than I thought.

Is the IRQL error even relevant? All I've gathered from looking around online is that it means there's a driver issue somewhere, but it's odd to me that so far only the torrent clients affect whatever driver is the problem. My hardware being stressed doesn't seem to be an issue (I tried playing DotA 2 on max graphics last night, no problems). I'm fairly certain the torrent I was trying to download is perfectly fine -- like I said, that's the main way the visual novel I want is distributed by its creators, so hundreds of people access it, and it isn't bootleg or anything.

So, you're basically just saying the OS is the problem, then?

Hi -
Did your "new Disks" have a product key with them ?? Genuine new sealed M/soft disks would have a key on the pack for registering.
We were just concerned that the Pro version that you were given was a copy (clone), and not original install version of Pro.

It is easy to make a "cloned version" of any O/System, and say "Here is a key" but this was not stated (as your above quotes).
If the new install is from a Genuine New Sealed Microsoft set of disks, this is all we wished to help you with.

I needed to do a full reinstall of my Toshiba Windows7, and I got 4 Genuine DVDs from Toshiba to do the reinstall with.
You should have been given more than one disk to reinstall your system, or this may not have been a full Genuine install.

If you can see, by what I am listing, we need to know exactly what you installed with, as your problems began from day 1 of the reinstall.

I hope that you do understand that no-one is accusing you of installing a clone, but we are only wanting to help you correct things if they gave you a non-genuine version.

Thank You -

He only gave me one disc in a paper envelope... I asked again, and he said the key is genuine and the single disc is what his dad uses all the time for new machines. I dunno, dude. As far as I know, it's genuine. I activated it as soon as I got it and everything. I didn't have to take any special steps or anything to install. Now you have me worried. :c

Hello -
This is just personally from me and I hope you understand that I am not being in any way personal towards Any of your actions -
If someone else wishes to take the post I am quite OK with that -

Since the "Disk and Key" given to you by this person seems ?? (I am not sure), I do hope that your former posted problems are now solved (sound etc).
I would ask you to see the person in charge of this "Disk and Key" to see if it is 100% legal to use it on your "not new" computer.
If the disk is an OEM version, then this is designed to be installed for new computers only -

Thank You -

EDIT - OEM = original equipment manufacturer

Let me offer some ideas, at the risk of upsetting you one more time...

Each OS disc is licensed for use on one computer. The one you used has been used by "Dad" several times prior to you using it. Although it may operate correctly, the possibility of having problems is high. IE may tell you the disc is not
genuine or stop any updates. You can borrow another home premium disc and reinstall with the key that came with "your" machine as home premium was the original licensed OS for your machine. With that done, it should function properly. BleepingComputer standards are that they will not help with systems that have OS installed that are invalid (pirated).

uTorrent is a magnet for virus/malware as are most p2p software. Most reputable websites that deal with computers and virus/malware issues are reluctant to help with uTorrent operation issues. I would suggest you take those issues and questions back to where you downloaded the software from.

If you have any problems with your computer, other than those that I've mentioned, these are the guys to go to.

Again, I'm not speaking for BC...just a member. Good luck with your quest.
