Ok, So I'm thinking of upgrading my cpu from a B65 PH II @4.1(antec 620 push/pull,Antec HCG 750, M5A88-evo, rosewill future midtower) to either a FX 6300 or an 8150, mainly for gaming improvement but also multitasking.

Games I either have/will acquire are BF3, BFBC2, Cry 1,2,3, Dirt 3, F1 2011, Xplane, FSX

Newegg has the 8150 with the closed loop cooler(essentially an Antec 920)

To make it worth the upgrade I'll need to acheive min 4.8-4.9 on the 8150
Any advice on what to do here, thx

A new graphics card may benefit you in the games, what card do you currently have?

You could just push out a few more FPS with the upgrade but have you considered the 8350?

I'm fine with the GPU, its the CPU that needs changing
My Bad, no I'm not considering the 8350 cos I wanna OC but will need a more robust cooling solution to do so & that does not fit in the budget

Then the 8150 would be fine but i'm not entirely sure if you could reach 4.8 or 4.8GHz as that would depend on the silicon lottery.

You should be able to get to about 4.5 or 4.7 on the 8150. There seems to be a point with the voltage, where, if you go past a certain point, power consumption and heat spike to the point where watercooling has difficulties. You may be able to get to about 5 GHz. on an FX-8350 with improved power consumption and heat over the 8150. This doesn't mean the 8350 will sip power, the FX series of CPU's can be really power hungry.

Ok so a 6300 @ 4.7 should be better than an 8150 @ 4.7-4.8 right?

At the very least it will draw less juice and produce less heat but I'm not too worried about those factors, I'm really more concerned with performance, especially relative to current chip. As far as cooling the 6300 will be paired with the 620 and the 8150 with the 920 as stated earlier so the cooling should be adequate I suppose.

My bugdet is $130 but the reason I'm even considering the 8150 is b'cos of the closed loop cooler it comes with, essentially you are getting a great discount on it.

Depending on the task, the 8150 still should outperform the 6300.
