Losing Wireless Connection, Possible Interference?

Hey guys, tried everything I know how to help a friend out and can't seem to figure this one out.

His wireless connections randomly kicks him off. It had been working fine up to this point. So I figured it could be his router and took my working router over to his house and it still did the same thing.

He called his cable company and they looked over everything and said his cable is fine, which is probably true because his computer works fine connected with a wired connection.

I thought then maybe it was his computer, so I replaced his wireless card with a direct replacement from HP. Updated to most recent drivers. Still doing the same thing.

I even brought the laptop to my house and it works perfect here. So all of these things led me to believe maybe interference of some sort?

I downloaded inSSIDer and he's running it all the time. It only occasionally picks up another network in the neighborhood. He said he had it running last night and left and came back and when he came back he had lost his connection and on inSSIDer, it showed where his connection spiked 4 times then he got disconnected. I'm at a loss for what to do next, any ideas?

Also, now when he first boots up the computer it seems like it takes 30 seconds to a minute for the wireless to actually connect to the internet. First it shows limited connectivity for a bit, then finally connects...it never used to do this either.


Oh, and the router is a Netgear WNR2000. Laptop is an HP G71t-400 and he has cable internet. Results are:

Open your device manager then left click your network adapters then right click and select uninstall for your wireless driver.
Reboot your machine.

Hit start
Control Panel
NetWork & Sharing Center
Manage Network Connections
Right Click Your Connection
Select Properties
Un-Check Ipv6
Select ok





Run the Fix it below this remove the Tunnel Adapters from your machine.

Download Adware Cleaner Save it to your desktop Right Click it run it as admin Click the delete button allow it to run it will reboot your machine let it Attach the log in your next reply.

Just curious, when I reboot after uninstalling the wireless driver should I have the ethernet cable plugged in so it finds drivers for the wireless or will Windows 7 automatically find them?

Windows 7 will auto find the driver.

Ok, did everything you had there and when we booted it up for the last time his internet didn't work. We had to reset the modem and router and it worked again. So something is still not quite right....although the one thing I did notice was when you turn it on now it connects to the internet instantly like it used to.

Ok, after uninstalling Norton and reinstalling, the connection dropped during activation. Then I uninstalled both Java items and it's been down a couple times since then. As a side note, when it goes down, it's not just this computer, even our smart phones won't connect when it goes down. Here's the minitool....

His wireless connections randomly kicks him off. It had been working fine up to this point. So I figured it could be his router and took my working router over to his house and it still did the same thing.

it's not just this computer, even our smart phones won't connect when it goes down


I even brought the laptop to my house and it works perfect here.

Has to be a ISP issue then I would think.

The only reason I was thinking maybe interference was because his ISP has already been there and said everything was fine(which I know doesn't mean it is for sure)...and also when he is connected to the router with a wire, it works perfect...I guess we'll check with his ISP again and see what they say. Thanks for all your help man, I'll let you know what we find out.

Hey guys, I realize this is an old topic but just thought I'd let you know how this issue has finally been resolved after 2+ months of fighting with it.

The ISP ended up replacing every piece of cable from the top of the pole to the ground through his yard and even re-did everything on the inside. Still didn't work.. Then he went with one of their modem/router set ups. Still didn't work... Finally he unplugged a set of wireless speakers which we had unplugged previously and didn't think it helped, and it's been working ever since.

So we're assuming it could have been a combination of the wireless speakers and a portion of the cable that was replaced.

Anyways, thank you guys for all your help, it was much appreciated!
