Hi, this is my first post here so I hope I do this right. I am running XP home SP3 with 2.5 GB ram, the problem is that the Camera and Scanner wizard is missing in control panel and the computer will not see my phone which is an AT&T Pantech 2030, is there a way to get the camera & scanner wizard back in control panel without having to reinstall XP on the machine. Thanks.

I would do two thingx:

a. Run the sfc /scannow command.

Have Windows CD ready. Start/Run...type sfc /scannow and hit Enter. If that doesn't start it, then go Start/Run...type cmd hit Enter. Type sfc /scannow at prompt and hit Enter.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

If scan stops and indicates that file is needed from CD...insert CD and hit Retry button on alert message.

b. Run the chkdsk /r command afterwards. Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot.

The command will execute before booting into XP.

Well I did them both and no change, is there supposed to be a log from chkdsk, there was no report after it ran, the computer just booted up.

To find the results of a previous chkdisk, go into Start > Control Panel and doubleclick on "Administrative Tools".
Then doubleclick on "Event Viewer", then select "Application".
Now you will see a list of Application events. Look for the most recent "Winlogon" event. You can tell the date and time of the Winlogon event to see if that corresponds with the particular chkdsk you are interested in seeing the results for. Double click on it, and you will see the results of your chkdsk.

Good Luck -

IMO, attaching pics of Event Viewer is not fruitful...since it's the detail below the screen that actually tends to be revealing...or looking up the event via Google.

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please follow instructions at Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 .

Please double-click those two line items in Event Viewer...to see the detail. Please post same.

FWIW: Not sure what the value of having PC Wizard 2007 installed...when there's a 2012 version available which probably reflects more current hardware in the database.

I don't see anything that I would be concerned about, other than those twwo entries I noted above.

Where are you looking...in Control Panel...for the Scanner/Camera Wizard? It should be Control Panel/Printers & Other Hardware/Scanners & Cameras. There is no icon for the Wizard...it should appear automatically, but at times it doesn't and users have to go to Scanners & Cameras.

Did this phone...come with a software disk?

Have you connected it to the system previouslly to download pictures?

No, the camera did not come with a disk and I did try connecting it to the computer, the cord to charge it is a USB connection so I just plugged it into the USB connection on the computer and turned it on but the computer did not see it, there is a listing for Scanners & Cameras in Start>Accessories but when I click on it, it says "no device connected".

I'm not on that computer right now so I will get the other information in a bit. I have had PC Wizard for quite some time but for some dumb reason never thought about updating it, would you recommend getting the new one ??

:), the software that we, as users, install...well, I find it idiosyncratic...that is, it depends on the person.

I would not have it installed at all...I see no purpose for installing it. If I knew why you thought it a good idea to install/use...then I could comment on the merits of such.

OTOH...I have all sorts of programs installed (SIW, Speccy, Revo Uninstaller, GSmart Control to name a few) on this system mostly for test purposes and reference when I try to assist someone with a given problem. I even have a program from 2000 (Cool Edit 2K) that still is the best program for what I want to do with music edits.

So it's not so much age that I'm looking at...the purpose of the program should drive all installs, IMO.

That "no device connected" indicates that it's not plug & play reocgnition. You might take a spin at the respective support website for http://www.pantechusa.com/files/110621_Revere_P2030_Manual_EN_REV.00_reduced.pdf . From what I see, you cannot download pictures to your system from that phone and the USB cable probably was meant for something other than that purpose.

The purpose of that program was for me to get information about what's in my computer without having to take it apart, I don't mind taking it apart, I do it often in order to clean out the dust in the fans and the heat sinks. As for the phone cable, like I said it is USB that connects to a 110 adapter to charge the phone and the people at the AT&T store told me I could transfer pictures from the phone to the computer. Maybe they were wrong.

Anyway, I could only find the first file, I looked through all the events and none of them had that time >00:47:26 PM.
