I need some help!

I lost the Desktop app in the Windows 8 Metro Start Screen. I can replace it with a show desktop shortcut but I was looking to get the original Desktop app back.

Can anyone assist? I searched the internet with no luck.

Thanks,

Stevenoj27

Search for Desktop on the Windows Start screen. RIght click on the resulting Desktop search result and specify to pin to the start menu.

When I search for Desktop I only get a Remote Desktop Connection choice. It is possible I uninstalled it. If so is there any way to reinstall? It is not listed in the My Apps not installed section.

Steven, what exactly did you do to remove the desktop icon? As far as I know there is no way to uninstall it.

I am not sure if I did anything. I just noticed it is gone. I know you can unpin certain apps and uninstall as well. I truly do not think I did either. It is just missing.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a Desktop icon in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder?

Download http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/misc/Desktop.lnk and save it to the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

This should restore your desktop icon.

Please let us know if this worked for you.

Hi. I have the same problem as steven, can you reupload desktop shortcut? When i download it, it is desktop.download and it doesn't work. I've tried to make shortcut of desktop and placed it in start menu/programs folder. Worked but it was only 1x1 standard square and it wasn't interactive (my background wallpaper wasn't on the button). Thanks in advance.

Did you look for it in the Apps?

Just in case: to view the Apps RIGHT click an empty space on the Metro Screen. Click the Apps icon in the lower right hand corner of the page.

If desktop is listed RIGHT click, choose Pin to Start.

Hi, I'm having the EXACT same problem as majes. Is there anything that can be done to restore the original Destop tile onto the Start menu? I don't believe that I had done anything to delete it. The only thing that I did was to hook up my HP Deskjet 1000 printer to my laptop and the tile was gone... Help! Please...

Allright i've sloved that one. Search for "desktop" in your system partition. It should be somewhere around "C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-desktoptileresources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_2c0380232b43202c" or something similar. Then simply copy it to start menu\programs. Works for me!
