I'm trying to update java on my desktop however the new java says its been interrupted when I try to load it. I have removed the old java however there's a couple of updates that won't remove. Java™ 6 Update 31 and Java™ 7 Update 5 they give me a fatal error window.

Completely remove Java:

http://www.java.com/en/download/uninstall.jsp

Install Java:

http://www.java.com/en/download/chrome.jsp?locale=en

Or try the Offline installer:

JavaRa may assist, but I haven't had to use it.
Perhaps other members can comment on this program, before you use it.

Oh hey! Thanks! I think I needed to use that before I'll give it a try and will let you know.

Still getting this error when trying to update java:

Installation Failed

The wizard was interrupted before Java 7 Update 7 could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

You could try the Fixit:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall/

Things may have become screwed up, if you've had a recent infection.

Don't know what else to suggest.

I used to use the Win Installer cleanup utility to get rid of remnants before reinstalling stuff, but as this is no longer supported by Microsoft, I think the Fixit is probably worth a shot.

Try Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the old version, then reboot, then try to install

Thanks. I've tried Revo Uninstaller and while it says that it took off the old Java the files are still there and I'm still getting the error message mentioned before: Installation Failed

The wizard was interrupted before Java 7 Update 7 could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

A cautionary note:

The MajorGeeks link is a direct link to msicuu2.exe, The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, (which I have used successfully in the past).

Note this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651

and in particular:

"Important The Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) that was previously referred to in this article was discontinued.

Although the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems,
it sometimes damaged other components that were installed on the computer.

Because of this, the tool was removed from the Microsoft Download Center.

The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter is a replacement for that utility."

I believe it caused problems with some versions of Microsoft Office.
