last night, I turned off my pc.. mins later I wanted to check my bank account. I turn the power on and no BEEP and monitor wont come up.. i try off and on, unplugging the back, turning power off on PSU finally gave up angry cause I had to go to bed for work, I try one more time 20 mins later and it comes on.

I think all is well till I go to turn it on after work today and the SAME THING.. I have windows 7, I have avast free edition

It comes on and i go to plug my headphones in, and a loud screaching, interferance sound came from it, i rebooted and the soundcard drivers are missing.. least of my problems..

I scan with updated AVAST and it comes up FOUR of these

C:\windows\winsxs\qdvd.dll - - HIGH priority -- Threat: Rootkit: Hidden file

I go to DELETE and it says I have to REBOOT SCAN...... WHICH IS an ISSUE

because since I installed windows 7 and avast I CAN NOT do a boot scan.. comes up a black screen.. with 4 or 5 DOTS at the TOP LEFT of the screen.. same color as WINDOWS 7 login color blue... normally would ask for my password, but nothing happens.

Here is my hijackthis log ran as administrator

well in a turn of events, somehow malwarebytes went to delete and said I had to restart, I chose not to restart.. finally i decided to restart... the light comes on the power button, but u dont hear the BEEP and the monitor wont load up, its not booting....

i hold power, turn off, turn back on... same thing....

I HOLD POWER turn off, then HOLD POWER TURNING ON (CONT. TO HOLD TILL IT TURNS BACK OFF) then turn on..a nd it comes on

BLANK SCREEN AND MOUSE POINTER

I PRESS ALT CTRL DEL AND LOG OFF USER AND BACK ON... now here I am its working....

I can show you what was deleted.. it was stuff that it AUTO SELECTED to be deleted

is this my PC messing up? as in HARDWARE to cause this? I dont even know when this started...

I guess.... a few nights ago CHROME stopped responding.. i couldnt close a tab or anything.. on a normal site I go to everday..

load it again and it still dont work but firefox did work...

just seemed strange to me...

that was a few nights ago

should I try a system restore? after deleting that stuff?

I have not tried system restore.. tonight is the first night i have had time to try to fix this..

anyone.. if you have any suggestions, pls let me know.. i have searched and dont see the tie in to the things I am having happen

EDIT-

It still happens when I restart.. I literally have to HOLD POWER, SHUT OFF.. HOLD POWER WHILE IT TURNS ON, TILL IT TURNS OFF AGAIN... THEN POWER ON and it comes on

I find it strange that my soundblaster X-FI card stopped working when all this happend.. I cant get it to work. it says that its not there.. i have tried re-installing drivers but it says that the hardware cant be started - Code 10

I am so confused..

well, i formatted and windows 7 would go to restart on the install process and the same thing happend, I remembered that I upgraded my memory about a month ago, put (2) 2gb sticks to make it a total of 8GB

I removed the NEW (USED ONES) off of ebay

and now it restarts fine.. so i then went and put ONE of the sticks in.. started, restarted, and same thing!!!

I took it out and put the OTHER memory stick in and now it works.. so it turns out I guess that one memory stick was bad and causing the problem I was having

ALL IS GOOD NOW

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!!! LOL

Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, you should not bother creating a GMER log.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!
