Problems being experienced on the laptop are;

The boot / load takes some 5 minutes from start to finish, this is as it was before these scans

Windows explorer appears to be much quicker, it does still hang between windows

internet explorer is incredibly slow and non-responsive with pages hanging, timer just spinning, back button slow

I use safari which seems to be much more responsive then IE

Any help fixing these errors is appreciated.

Prior to starting this topic I had started one in the Am I Infected? What do I do? section, a link is provided here if it helps. Boopme assisted on this one and suggested that I should post the MiniToolbox report into this section as there were a number of errors.

The remaining problems on the laptop include;

taking over 5 minutes to boot / load before being ready to use.
internet explorer being extremely slow to load, it hangs between pages, shows as not responding
Connection to the internet being stopped
unable to start regedit

There are a couple of other issues which will be posted in new topics.

OK...did you run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic...to check the functional status of your hard drive?

I like to start with the most basic (yet important) item that could be the cause of system problems.

This seems to be an Intel driver problem...I would reinstall the Intel chipset drivers for the system...and then see how the system performs.

Ditto for the wireless drivers, except I would uninstall the current ones first...then reinstall them.

Then...run the chkdsk /r command.

Could mean that PS is damaged and needs to be uninstalled/reinstalled...could be due to file system/hard drive problems.

This is elusive...some have reported problem was caused by updating mechanisms installed with programs...AV program...and so on. All over the place.

Please do the following:

Please click the following link, http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe . This link is a direct download to a tool we are going to use. Download the tool, save it to your desktop.

1.Double click on VEW.exe to start the program. If you recieve an "Open File" security warning, press Run.

2.In the "Select log to query" section, check both Application and System.

3.In the "Select type to list" section, check Error. This is the only item in that group that should be checked, we are not interested in the others.

4.In the "Number or dates of events" section, check Date of events... then enter the From and To dates. From 1 07 2012 to 28 07 2012.

5.Press the Run button.

When the process completes, it only takes a few seconds..., Notepad will open with a report file named: VEW.txt.

6. Select entire contents of log, press Copy, saving it to the clipboard. Paste the contents into your next reply.

PS came already installed on the laptop so I am loathed to uninstall it at this moment in time.


The VEW.exe would not run "runtime error 75 - path / file access error"


As an update, I have updated Java and Hijackthis as per the security check log and will leave the laptop to defrag. the boot / load time is still 5+ minutes
IE is still slow to load, load pages etc..
unable to access regedit

I have now run both the Norton and Avast Removal Tools and cleared them.

Trend Micro is not my favorite among protection softwares but if you would like to install another high rated free antivirus, you can try Microsoft Security Essential or Avast.

I run a few Trend Micro tools including Titanium Internet Security 2012, Browser Guard and RUBotted as three individual programs. Would Microsoft Security Essential replace all of them? I now have SUPERAntiSpyware installed after completing a topic in the I Have A Virus! What can I Do? section. Do I need two of these type of apps?

Have you tried running without add-ons in IE or trying a different browser just to check on the problem? However, the above suggestion may contribute to your problem so please follow and answer as per question given.

Regarding the add-ons is there a way of listing them and seeing what is needed or not needed?

Thanks for the advise, I have reset internet explorer and disabled all of the add-on's. Internet Explorer is working great now.

Unfortunately I have paid a subscription for Trend Titanium 2012, so I will be looking at keeping this for the near future. I have however removed the other Trend Micro applications and replaced them with superantivirus and malwarebytes to see how they go.

Thanks for coming back. Please make sure not all addons are disabled as IE browser needs certain components to run such as flash player for videos. Disable only the culprits as and if needed, remove them from the system.
