PC switches itself off when using you tube or spotify

Hi, I hope this is the correct place for my problem. I have a custom built (not by me) PC running XP Pro SP3. Recently if I'm looking at videos on You Tube or listening to music on Spotify the PC switches itself off after about 10 minutes. If I try to turn it back on immediately i get the message STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000402.

If I wait about 15 minutes before attempting to start up again the PC boots as normal and behaves normally for all other activities (ie internet, email, word etc.)

I'm sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere in the forums but could do with some ideas as to what may be wrong.

Hi -

Please run chkdsk /r to see if there are any errors in your hard drive disk.
The error as written, STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error} with 0x00000402, is a bit hard to find at the moment -

When you get the error, is there ever any Blue Screen problems involved with it or just an automatic shutdown??

Thanks for your reply. I'll run the chkdsk/r in the next couple of days. There are no blue screen problems. I updated my display adaptor driver yesterday and since then have listened to spotify for more than two hours without any problem. Not sure if the two could be connected. I'll try You Tube later.

To update: I ran chkdsk /r and it came up clean. I've also tried viweing You Tube again and the problem persists with the PC switching itself off after 10 minutes. (although listening to music on spotify continues to be OK). I guess my previous comment about updating the display adaptor drivers was a red herring.

Please try running the computer in safemode with networking. See if the problem co exist.

Sorry my reply is late but I had to be away from my PC for a few days. I tried to view You Tube in safe mode with networking but every time I tried to load a video I got a message stating the Adobe Flash plug in had crashed, followed very quickly by the problem of switching off by itself recurring. I run Firefox and have checked that my version of the plug in is up to date.

Hi -
Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop, log off, and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory (desktop) the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Also Publish a Snapshot using Speccy =<<Follow These Directions

Check the hardware temperature and post the readings please on your next reply.

The hardware temperatures are reported in the speccy report in my previous post. I've just rechecked them and they are the same.

Can you try not connecting online first when you boot the PC on the first 10 minutes or longer? Do you see this Posted Image message?

Hi, I left it 30 minutes before connecting online and then viewed You Tube and the PC lasted 20 minutes before switching itself off. I got the adobe flash plug in crash as depicted when I viewed You Tube when in Safe Mode with Networking, but not with normal boot up. I posted a speccy snapshot and mini tool box result a couple of posts back and wondered if anybody had looked at these.

Does your PC shutdown when not online? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/adobe-flash-plugin-has-crashed
Try unchecking Automatically Restart(although it shutsdown)on startup and recovery and see if the shutdown occurs with these setting turned off.
