Win XP Pro can't see Win7

Hi,
I'm having problems setting up my Home Network and I know it's my fault . The laptop is using WIFI while the Desktop is cabled. Now the problem is that the Laptop can see the Desktop but the Desktop can't see the Laptop. I have read the "Please Read" Topic and like to ask if you need the "MiniToolBox" report for both computers or just the Desktop? I don't want to add useless information from the Laptop if it's not needed!!

The specs for both computers are as follows:

Desktop
Built to Spec, WIN XP PRO SP3 (32 bit), PENT4 3GHz, 512MB RAM ( ), 80GB HD (divided into 2 partitions of 40GB)

Laptop
ASUS X53S, Win 7 SP1 (64 bit), Intel i7 2.2GHz, 6GB RAM ( ), 640GB HD

Router
D-Link DSL-2680

Distance from router
Both computers are right next to it with the Desktop connected. Sometimes the Laptop is about 20-30 feet from the router via WIFI with Excellent connection.

Firewall and Anti-virus
Both computers have Comodo Firewall and Avast AV

Internet Connection
ADSL up to 7MB Download and 512kb Upload

The desktop cant see the laptop because The NTFS permissions are different between Versions of Windows IE: Pro And Home edition. Its either that or a File sharing setting. What version of Windows 7 do you have?


Edit: Just read the end of your post. Is Comodo Configured to allow file and printer sharing?


To Configure Comodo for File and Printer sharing you need to add the IP Address of All computers and Hardware on the Lan to the trusted zone

I've got the IP address by opening a CMD box and typing ipconfig /all this gave me one IP number 19*.***.*.* and this is in the "Firewall" "Network Security Policy". However, when visiting whatsmyip.org it gives a completely different IP 9*.***.***.**

I must ask if where I have been looking in the Comodo Policy is OK or have I made a mistake?

Actually this would be much easier if you Would go to the Please read thread and post everything it asks for For BOTH computers. I should have asked that to start. Also which version of Comodo are you using.

AS for one thing you said about the "Please Read" thread, as I stated in my first post I did read and asked if the logs were required for both computers as the problem was just with the desktop.
Anyway, the Comodo firewall version on BOTH computers is 5.10.228757.2253 Thanks for the help.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply and sorry for not posting sooner.

I turned off the Comodo Fiewall on BOTH computers but the Desktop still couldn't see the Laptop.

It was suggested to my brother-in-law, he contacted his IT department on my behalf, to cancel all the settings etc and start from scratch again. They thin that something went wrong at the beginning.

Do you think this is a good idea or can I save all that trouble by trying to resolve it.

If I start from "Scratch" I'd need help as I'm not wonderful about setting up the network.
