I just bought a 3tb Seagate Barracuda 3.5" internal hard drive. I installed it via sata and sata power. I know the drive is spinning up, and a notification popped saying new device detected. But it wont show under my computer. The desktop I am using is a HP Pavilion. Then, I plugged in my sata to usb adapter, (which I know works, I use it for hard drives all the time) and plugged it into my laptop. The same thing happened and it wont show. Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like the drive is bad?

Thanks

You need to format it. You don't say what OS it is, but assuming it's Windows XP or newer you can do it from within Disk Management (START - RUN - diskmgmt.msc)

I did that but it says the max space is only 746 gigs. It's a 3 tb drive. It says right on the side of the drive "3000 GB" why would it only be 746gb?

Hi

One other thing to remember is that many, especially the older ones to hook up a hard drive externally via USB will not handle a 3Tb drive properly.

My next Upgrade, USB 3 on my remaining desktop. The only External storage devices I currently Buy are USB3 devices
