Windows Installer Service Cannot be Accessed

All of a sudden I cannot install a program and am getting the error message that "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed". Am running Vista w/ sp2 on a Gateway GT5464 desktop computer. Never had this happen before.

Open Notepad and copy the text below into it and save it to your desktop call it msi.reg then right click it and select merge Reboot your machine.

run sfc /scannow
