802.11g PCI Turbo Wireless Adapter = Wireless Network Connection (Media disconnected)
Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC = Local Area Connection 4 (Media disconnected)

Go to device manager, expand network adapters,Do you find any exclamation mark?

Press Windows +R key and type

cmd and click ok,run these two commands and let me know if it shows errors

net start netbt
net start dhcp

Now check your browser

Do you have your network drivers? If yes,Try reinstalling them

Network Adapters show no exclamation marks beside them. In Properties, they show to be "working properly"

Also, ran the two command:

net start netbt
net start dhcp

..both resulting in: "The requested Service has already been started"

And finally, uninstalled the Network Drivers, but since I don't have them, I just rebooted and they were back with the same results.

All I have is a Recovery XP Cd made yesterday by ARCDC that appears to be of no help.

The question is: Would a Full Windows XP CD solve the problem?

There are some offered on ebay. Would that be the way to go?

Could such a CD be used in a limited way just to solve the problem, without having to lose my installed programs and data?

Thank you for your valuable help!

You need not lose your data.Just back up your data to an external drive.Such CDs do not give you an option of repair just like recovery CD you made.A clean install may be the best option at this stage. You may need to reinstall your programs later.

Sorry we could not be of help.

Does this mean that it is fixed or are you throwing in the towel?

It appears that I have to accept the inevitable and have Windows XP reinstalled (Hard Disk reimaging) with all the headaches that comes with it. For several days now I kept hanging on refusing to go that route, even though many pointed it out as the best solution. Now, it appears to be the only solution and I'll just have to take the pain involved. Lots of data and programs to backup!

But it is nice to see such a group of enthusiasts commited to helping others so selflessly. I would have given up much earlier if I did not have that support.

Thanks to all of you again.

If you do get a disk you can try the repair install that way you dont lose your data although it is a good idea to back just incase. :) Good luck.

Hi -
Also remember that you have the offer of free Malware check / removal if you wish without reinstalling your system.
I just watched one similar Smart HDD infection being fully removed, and that needed ComboFix, Rootkit remover and a few other tools -

The option is always open and I will leave directions on how to use the Malware Removal Forum below - No obligation on you, but it may save all programs

Please follow the instructions in ==>Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide<==.Starting at Post :step6:

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a brief description of your computer issues and what we have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic. {Right click the Post #1 for Copy shortcut and Right click for Paste}

Most importantly please be patient till you get a reply to your topic. If you receive a reply from the HelpBot, then please follow the instructions outlined in the helpbot's post.

Sorry we could not help further here -
