Lost Internet Connection after removing S.M.A.R.T. HDD Fake.


Hi InadequateInfirmity ,

I've been struggling with the same problem for a few days now - also after removing the S.M.A.R.T HDD Fake Virus.

I've tried the Winsock Fix program unsuccessfully. I also tried the manual methods described by several others to restore the Winsock keys in the Registry - again without success.

Finally I came across this thread and was glad to see someone succeeeding in solving this problem. I thought I might go directly to the very last step that solved the problem here. But found that the file netbt.sys does exist in my system - on both hard drives!

So, what do you suggest?

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Are you trying for Wireless or Direct Wired (Ethernet) connection, if wireless is there a signal from the modem ??

Next ; For the connection try this...
Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.
Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.
Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit.
Now check if the internet is working again.......

The ipsec file is corrupt here is a site that you can get theipsec file from you will need to of course need to download the xp file then unzip the file inside of a new folder inside the new folder look for the ipsec file then right click and select merge. http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/files/download/9-registry-network-keys/

Also o the same for the LEGACY wscsvc file. Edit: Alsodo this for the wscsvc file. not just the legacy.

Make sure that restart/shutdown system is ticked. Then Start the repairs.

Make sure when you run this tool that it is the only thing that you run close everything including your browser for best chance of this program doing its job.

Trying to perform the first procedure, after downloading the XP file, I was able to successfully merge the ipsec file, but not the Legacy-wscsvc file. The error message said something like :"Cannot import - Error accessing the Registry"

Should I still proceed with the next step of the All-in-one repair tool?

Please try the standard wscsvc file. the one that reads wscsvc file. not the Legacy then move on to the windows repair tool.If you have problems with that then just move on to the repiar tool.

Both the ipsec file and wscsvc file did not help.

The All-in-one Windows repair tool:

- In Step2,"Check Disk" could not be performed?! (No reason given)

- During the following phases, the following Error Message kept popping up frequently:

"Execute Process Remotely" has encountered a problem and needs to close. !

Then, after finishing and restarting, a blue screen appears at the beginning and tries to Check Disk

It tries to:

1) Verify Files (phase 1)

2) Verify Indexes (phase 2)

3) Verify Security Descriptors (phase 3)

At this last phase, it starts to do the following in a very fast and hyper way: "Inserting an Index Entry with id XXXX into index $SDH/SII of file 9.

The id # started from 1 and rose very quickly to several thousand. So I had to stop it!

Now, every time the computer starts, it tries to perform the same Disk Cheking and verification procedures.

But there's a problem. Performing this manual procedure requires having an XP Disk, but I don't have one. When I bought this computer from Micro Center here in Dallas, it came with Windows XP installed, but with a Vista Disk (for upgrading) - No XP disk!

Now, the question is:
