Each time that I turn on my laptop, it will not connect to my wireless router. When I run the troubleshoot, it asks me to restart the router. Once I unplug and restart the router, it will work for a couple of hours, then it will kick me off. The troubleshoot error message says "wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I have an ASUS laptop, a Cisco Linksys router and Cable internet connection/modem.

How did you configure your router? Did you use the included disk? The reason I ask is your network address is not a private address according to www.ip-lookup.net that address is registered with At&t
Follow this link to Microsoft's instructions
on TCP/ip stack repair
. Halfway down the page click "Fixit"

My router was configured by another person. No, the CD was not used. I clicked on the Fixit link and ran the program. The internet did connect when I restarted. Was this the problem, or is it going to kick me off in a couple of hours?

Do you have the easy set-up Cd that came with the router? Also what is the model number of the router?

wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Do you still see this message when connecting by LAN? How about on other computers, wired or wireless?

I don't get this message on my desktop computer; only my laptop. It never did this when it was initially set up; only since I've moved.

Can you try resetting the router to factory settings first and reinstalling your network card drivers? Check if you have other open networks that your laptop might be connecting also and use the home network instead.

I'm not sure how to reset the router to factory settings. When I do the manual reset, I just unplug it/plug it back up. Also, how do I reinstall the network card driver? Like I said, I wasn't the one who initially set this network up, so I'm not really sure how to do that. If there's a link you can point me to, that would be helpful. Thanks!

You can download the easy setup cd here download the setup wizard zip file. After you download the zip file follow these steps to reset your router to factory defaults.

Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug the router
Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
Power down the router.
Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router
Power up the router and allow it to fully boot
Run the set-up wizard you downloaded in the first step. Make sure you Change the log in username and password, set wireless encryption to WPA2 or higher and choose a long password, also change the default name of the network to anything you like (this will be the name of the network you connect to on your laptop). If the password is difficult to remember write it down and store it in a safe place. When the setup is complete turn on your laptop (if you are using it to set up the router, enable the wireless) and select the network name you chose in the previous steps. Enter in the encryption password and you should be able to connect to your wireless network. Please note if you have any network printers, or storage drives the IP addresses will all change or need to be changed if they are set static.

Okay, finally got my router reset and reinstalled. My laptop is connected to the internet, but there is an error over the connection area saying that the network is not identified and there is no network access. I'm confused. If there is no network access, why is it connected to the internet?

Here is the manual of your router - http://www.wtrt.net/manuals/Linksys_WRT120N.pdf
Go to the Wireless MAC filtering page and toggle off that option.

I went to the Linksys page and disabled the MAC filtering. The original error of "router reset" is now back when I cut the laptop off and cut it back on.
