Hello! I keep getting a runtime error 216 at5003A116 message. I started in safe mode and scanned the whole computer with AVG Free 2012, last updated today. It found nothing but when I restarted in normal mode, my AVG virus component is not active and I can't turn it on. I tried AVG website but can't seem to find a way to talk or chat with anyone. My computer was runing very slow which is why I started the whole scanning the computer and registy process. I found topics that state this eror is associated with a trojan "SubSeven". This is why I started the scan in safe mode. I'm not sure where to go from here, if I may have a virus or if my anti virus may be causing this error. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

=============================================================================

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

=============================================================================

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Be sure to restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

=============================================================================

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
    This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
    This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

OK, here's the rest of it!! Odd that I created two Word files on my desktop and pasted these results in them, however, they will not open when I double click, just Word opens and I have to open them "again" from word to view them.
Anyways...Thank you very much for your help so far :-)

I keep getting a runtime error 216 at5003A116 message

When exactly does it happen and what is the full error message?

As for AVG...Use AVG Remover to uninstall it: http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
Install fresh copy.

That is the full message "runtime error 216 at 5003a116". I was getting it after I shutdown internet explorer but I am no longer getting it after I ran your suggested programs. I am assuming I need to try and update all the items that the log said are out of date. I will try that this morning, hopefully I won't get the "drive F" message on Adobe. If so, I may try to uninstall/reinstall that too. Any other suggestions based on the logs?
Thank you!

BTW, I uninstalled AVG and reloaded it, it seems to be working fine.

Very well :)

Let's run couple more checks...

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

=============================================================================

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

Hey Broni, I ran TFC and ESET Online Scanner. TFC did fine and ESET found NO THREATS. I'm not sure how to update Java and strangely enough, Adobe Reader says "No Updates Available". I have clicked the update button on Spybot several times this week.

1. Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

2. Now, we need to remove old Java version and its remnants...

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.

Update Adobe Reader

You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions (if present).
Note. If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Alternatively, you can uninstall Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), download and install Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from HERE.
It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.
Note: When installing FoxitReader, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked toolbar, or any other garbage.

Good Morning Broni, I updated Java, then ran JavaRa. When JavaRa asked me to close the open browser (IE and I had our posts open) I got the error message again!!! (Runtime error 216 at 5003A116) I closed the message, opened IE again and closed it without moving from my home page and got this error message (The instruction at "0X5003a116 referenced memory at "0X034eae70". The memory could not be "Read".) When I closed that message, I got the Runtime error message again. :( ...Bleeping Computer!! I am sorry this seems to be taking alot of your time. I do plan on donating once I know I can safely send secure info!!
