1) Needs Workstation 8, won't work in WS 7 or VMware Player.
2) I installed the 32 bit from ISO, chose the custom wizard, highest hardware level (Workstation 8), install operating system later, Windows 7 (32 bit) as the Guest OS, 1 core, 2560mb RAM, NAT network, 40 GB SCSI disk. I removed the floppy before installing cuz I don't need it. VMware tools installed fine. There are some graphic bugs on my machine at times, but only briefly. YMMV...
Host is Windows 7 SP1 x64 on an Intel Core i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHz
Lot's of people reporting this problem (Apps won't launch in Metro) screen resolution seems to be the main "culprit" so far, reportedly needs (at least) 1024 x 768.
Hope this helps.

All my metro UI icons work, the weather icon is cool, it came up with a nice animated background with the weather info, trouble was it started out in Anaheim, CA, guess I have to tell the OS I am not in Anaheim, or CA.
Actually when I installed it, it never asked me what my global location is.![]()

Most of the APs relie on your windows LIVE id to work.
This must be the case, because my default image on my desktop is my image of my cat oreo, which is the same image I use here for an avatar and my Windows live ID image.
Bruce.

Once we do that we are no longer able to run the apps. Therefore, if you cannot run an app, simply make sure that your using a resolution offered by Windows 8 and that it is above 1024x768.

This was the clue that I needed. Metro UI apps will only work on a resolution supported and offered by Windows. As many of us are using this in Vmware 8, we have the ability to change the screen and thus the resolution to anything we want, even ones that are not natively supported by Windows 8.
Once we do that we are no longer able to run the apps. Therefore, if you cannot run an app, simply make sure that your using a resolution offered by Windows 8 and that it is above 1024x768.
- Taking advantage of touch input requires a screen that supports multi-touch
- To run Metro style Apps, you need a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 or greater

Windows 7 is the new XP; Windows Vista is passing the torch it got from Windows ME to Windows 8.
