Welcome to NGINX

Hello,

New to BleepingComputer. I have been searching for a way to eliminate a problem I have with my Internet Browser (Mozilla Firefox). Every time I type anything in the Main URL entry bar I am redirected to a page that simply says Welcome to nginx at the top. I am not sure what the problem is. I have seen the words "Google redirect virus" thrown about but am unsure if there is a conection to my problem. The only info I could find instructed me to Download HiJackThis and Post my Log and ask for help.

Consider this my cry for help.

My name is Shannon and I will be working with you to remove the malware that is on your machine.

I apologize for the delay in replying to your post, but this forum is extremely busy.

Please Track this topic - On the top right on this tread, click on the Watch Topic button, click on 'Immediate Email Notification', and then click on the Proceed button at the bottom.

Do Not make any changes on your own to the infected computer.

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Now, let's look more thoroughly at the infected computer -

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:

• Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • DDS.scr
  • DDS.pif
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
• A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
• Notepad will open with the results.
• Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

We also need a log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner, but, first, we need to disable your CD Emulation drivers.

Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.

• The application window will appear
• Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
• Click Yes to continue
• A 'Finished!' message will appear
• Click OK
• DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK

IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Next, please download Rootkit Unhooker from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
Link 1 (.exe file)
Link 2 (zipped file)
Link 3 (.rar file)
In order to use this tool if you downloaded from either of the second two links, you will need to extract the RKUnhookerLE.exe file using a program capable of extracing ZIP and RAR compressed files. If you don't have an extraction program, you can downlaod, install and use the free 7-zip utility.

• Double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to start the program.
• Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
• Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest.
• Click OK.
• Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report.
• Save the report to your Desktop.
• Copy and paste the contents of the report into your next reply.

-- Note: You may get this warning...just ignore it, click OK and continue: "Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself! It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?".

Once you have the above logs, click on the Add Reply button below, copy in the contents of the DDS & RKU logs, and include the Attach.txt as an attachment. Also include any comments that you might have concerning the infection(s) and the infected computer.

Forgive me if I seem ungrateful in my time of need, but I didn't see in the response an explanation of what the "Welcome to NginX is exactly? Did the HiJackThis log give you any indication of what's wrong? I would love to have a little more info about why it is necessary to do all this additional downloading and logging. This seems like a lot of work just to diagnose my computer.

I also feel skeptical because I just don't know that much about all the softwares you want me to download. And why should I not be concerned if I download a program that say it has a parasite inside itself?

I haven't had the time to sit down and devote my undivided attention to my computer for a while. I entered the URL and got this site:

It seems like it is the legit Bleeping Computer site.

I get the searchqu page when I type something in the URL bar without the www. and .com parts of the address. and I will occasionally get the Welcome to Nginx page if there is nothing to bring up in searchqu.

My computer is running incredibly slowly and the memory seems to be completely full. I even have an extra memory pack.

Help. I am working on doing the things you asked me to do in the earlier reply.
