I know there are plenty of 3rd party downloaders out there, but try this one for high quality fullscreen without installing anything.

When you are on the YouTube page you want to watch, write in the word 'kick' after the www. and press ENTER. Wait a mo for the screen to reload, choose your resolution, (agree to RUN if required), and down it comes to your download folder.

Here is an example - http://saveyoutube.com/watch?v=HBxKEmDwyuA&hd=1

Cheers

Another good one which has received rave reviews from my kids, is YouTubeSongDownloader from AbelsSoft.

Open the search window, type in a song, a genre or an artist and a list of those available shows up very quickly. Pick one and choose download music or download video and down it comes and is automatically converted to the format of your choice.

If you are using Chrome, then install ulitmate youtube downloader extension. The Plugin is awesome. You can download the video in any format (FLV, MP4, MP3)

I just read a topic on this forum condemning people for downloading pirated software and music and videos and songs and now I come to this topic and it seems that we pick and choose what we will call pirated or stealing... lol ...this is so funny...

Not everything on youtube is copyrighted. If you follow their guidelines you can legally use the tool. Youtube downloaders and torrent clients in and of themselves are not illegal. It's what you do with them is where the issue lies. Yes downloading pirated software and copyrighted content is highly frowned upon here. Using and providing access to the tools for legitimate purposes is not.

The analogy is that of a knife. In the hands of a surgeon it's a potentially lifesaving tool. In the hands of a criminal it's a whole other issue.

The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life.

I think youtube has users agree before you upload anything that viewers can download material for their own personal use. I think the uploader can get in to legal trouble if he or she is not the copyright owner but I think most of the time youtube just removes the video for copyright infringement if somebody claims and proves a copyright and maybe after a certain number of complaints they close the youtube account. I think as a downloader we don't have to worry about legal trouble unless we try to make money off the work without permission.

Just for background reading...

The Creative Commons license is the one which grants all users permission to reuse your content as part of their own creation.

http://www.youtube.com/t/creative_commons
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ (Summary)
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/legalcode (All the legal gibberish)

Creative Commons licenses provide a standard way for content creators to grant someone else permission to use their work. YouTube allows users to mark their videos with a Creative Commons CC BY license [attribution - reuse allowed]. These videos are then accessible to YouTube users for use in their own videos via the YouTube Video Editor. Attribution is automatic under the CC BY license, meaning that any video you create using Creative Commons content will automatically show the source videos' titles underneath the video player. You retain your copyright and other users get to reuse your work subject to the terms of the license.

The standard YouTube license

http://www.youtube.com/t/terms

Section 6.c (the important part):

For clarity, you retain all of your ownership rights in your Content. However, by submitting Content to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Content in connection with the Service and YouTube's (and its successors' and affiliates') business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. You also hereby grant each user of the Service a non-exclusive license to access your Content through the Service, and to use, reproduce, distribute, display and perform such Content as permitted through the functionality of the Service and under these Terms of Service. The above licenses granted by you in video Content you submit to the Service terminate within a commercially reasonable time after you remove or delete your videos from the Service. You understand and agree, however, that YouTube may retain, but not display, distribute, or perform, server copies of your videos that have been removed or deleted. The above licenses granted by you in user comments you submit are perpetual and irrevocable.
