I have been getting this error after internet explorer AND firefox would "not respond". Here is what I have done so far
Ran Trend Micro Virus Scan
Ran Malwarebytes virus scan
Was assisted in DDS logs and TDSSkiller
Found No virus or malware to be the cause
Uninstalled Firefox .net controller
** Firefox was fixed after this!
Manually Disabled all addons and plug ins one by one under tools, manage addons, show all addons.
Still got the same error
Ran internet explorer with no addons via start, programs, accessories, system tools, Internet Explorer (no addons)
**Internet explorer was Fixed!

However when opening a regular internet explorer it still gave the Apphang error.

Installed Internet Explorer 9 beta
Still "not responding"

I can test this on cue because I found one website that will immediatly cause the error.

Any ideas?

FWIW: Installing a beta version of a program...is not necessarily conducive to resolving problems.
