No major problem running combofix. It was saying my Mcafee wasn't disabled even though it was but it seemed to run fine.

I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

CODE
Folder::
c:\documents and settings\Anthony\Local Settings\Application Data\gfaaelyuw

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. report from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now after running the script?

No real problems running it other than that it says I'm running Mcaffee which I have disabled. Firefox loaded a little quicker it seemed after this lastest combofix. It usually takes minutes to load but loader quicker this time. Checked my C drive and still only have about 700mb available which I need to figure a way to lower.

These logs are looking alot better. But we still have some work to do.

Please print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file. It will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps..

uninstall some programs
    1. click on start
    2. then go to settings
    3. after that you need control panel
    4. look for the icon add/remove programs
    click on the following programs

    Adobe Reader 8.1.0
    Viewpoint Media Player

    and click on remove

Update Adobe Reader
Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version.

You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions.
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.
If you don't like Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), you can download Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from here. It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.

Note: When installing FoxitReader, be carefull not to install anything to do with AskBar.

Your Java is out of date.

It can be updated by the Java control panel
  • click on Start-> Control Panel (Classic View)-> Java (looks like a coffee cup) -> Update Tab -> Update Now.
  • An update should begin;
  • follow the prompts

Clear your Java Cache
  • click on Start-> Control Panel (Classic View)-> Java (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked

Running fairly well. Still cannot get Windows updates to install and still only have about 111mb free on hard drive but otherwise seems to be OK. Got a message during installation of Adobe that I should defragment my hard drive and then repair Adobe.

Greetings

These logs are looking very good, we are almost done!!! Just one more scan to go.

:Remove unneeded startup entries:

This part of the fix is purely optional
These are programs that start up when you turn on your computer but don't need to be, any of these programs you can click on their icons (or start from the control panel) and start the program when you need it. By stopping these programs you will boot up faster and your computer will work faster.
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TPHOTKEY] C:\PROGRA~1\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TPHKMGR.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe"

Eset Online Scanner

**Note** You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan

Go Eset web page to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • click on the ESET Online Scanner button
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options
Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Report from ESET
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Myapologies for the delay. Have been trying to run the scan the last few days and its been taking too long and I have to turn my computer off. Running it now, hope to get a log posted tonight. Computer is at a crawl, barely able to do much. Think it is because the disc space is like approaching zero.

ESET scan found nothing.

Ran the HJT fixes as you requested.

Computer running OK, but very slow and almost no hard drive space on C drive. I'm guessing a lot will free up when I remove and uninstall all the things we used but would appreciate it if you could help guide me through freeing up space.

:clear system restore points:

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • choose your root drive (normally C:)
  • after it calculates how much space you will save it will open up a new window
  • Select the More options tab at the top of the window
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.
  • go back to the disk clean up tab
  • put a checkmark in all - except compress old files (leave this unchecked)
  • click Ok then click yes
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created and clean unneeded files

let me know if this frees up some space

Can't do system restore because I have less than 200kb. (about 71 right now). Have run disk cleaner again and have run it in the past so it didnt take much of anything off.

I guess what I don't understand is how my drive has filled up and how to fix that. I've seemingly removed all the Malware. I've moved practically every personal file I can find to my larger D drive. I've uninstalled every program I can think of that I don't use everyday and I run less programs that I did about two years ago. Yet my drive is still always nearly completely full. I realize I should get a new computer with a much larger hard drive but I guess I don't understand how my drive is full now but a year or two ago when I had many more files stored on the drive and had less programs installed it had plenty of space.

Does a drive just lose useable space over time? Does installing and reinstalling programs keep creating hidden files or something? Is the only real solution to reformat the drive? I'm not against doing that but I don't think my laptop came with a CD so I'm hesistant to do that. I have an external hard drive i can back stuff up on.

Also, I have no idea if its related but I've had trouble getting Windows Updates to Install. They keep getting auto downloaded to my system but then fail to install. Then the next day I get the message that they are ready to install but they keep failing. Never had that problem until recently.

The error codes look like:

Security Update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 (KB982157)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB2202122)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2003 (KB982134)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 (KB982122)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Access 2003 (KB981716)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB982133)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB980373)
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB982311)

been looking around to see if I can come up with something, I want you to check out this free program and see if you can see where your space is at

http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_s...r/features.html

play with it a day or two and come back here and let me know if it did any good

Its seems to show my files really well, but the issue is that I don't know what files to delete. In other words, I've already deleted or moved any large personal files I have. So any files should be related to programs which I don't have that many of.

Main problem is WINDOWS files. I have 7.5GB in there. I have no idea what files I need or can dispose of. There are tons of files in there with names that give me no indication of if i need them or not. Tons of .MSP files.

Is there any way to know which files I can delete or that are old and no longer actually used by Windows?

Hello

I have been going over your logs and...

==== Disk Partitions =========================

C: is FIXED (NTFS) - 14 GiB total, 0.067 GiB free.
D: is FIXED (NTFS) - 57 GiB total, 14.226 GiB free.
E: is CDROM ()

what you see above is that you have two partitions and one is empty now this looks like you have one harddrive with two partions

If this is true we can work with it, if it is two harddrives then we can't do much - do you know?

If it is one harddrive with two partitions then We need to move some of the free space from the D: drive to the C: drive

to do this we need to use a special program for this here is a free one >link<

here is the instructions on how to do it >link< Case 1

read the instructions and print them out first You 14 gigs free I would move 7 gigs to have 7 gigs free on each

Now this will help for a while but you need a bigger harddrive

Check what you can remove from the D drive whatever free space you can get i would split in half for each drive

let me know what you are going to do
