How to open usb without formatting ?

I am working on Windows XP SP 2.

I plugged the usb into my computer, it shows the error of formatting.

I can't format the usb, because i have very important data in usb.

How can i open my usb without formattting....?

Hi
Is the error because you have XP SP2 and the data is from XP SP3 or later -
Update to XP SP3 and go to Microsoft updates to make sure you have All the required updates -

I like noknojon highly recommend updating to SP-3 for security reasons mainly. Do a defrag when your done.
