How do I reformat laptop & reinstall Windows Vista?
Posted 02 October 2009 - 10:07 AM
First of all I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum, if not then I do apologise.
My son's laptop became infected by a nasty rootkit virus that blocked all attempts to run the diagnostic & fix tools suggested by the Spybot security expert. We are now in the position where we need to reformat the laptop and reinstall Vista, but this is not something I've ever attempted before - and would really appreciate any help & guidance.
The laptop is an Advent 5302 and was bought from PCWorld a couple of years ago. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (OEM) pre-installed on it - we have the Product Key but no disc. (is it possible to reinstall Vista without the disc?). We did create a back-up/recovery DVD when we got the laptop (or should I say DVDs because it went onto 2 discs) - does this help?
Is there any other information I need to post here?
Thanks, in anticipation,

You need to do a System Recovery - Quick format:
Do not save anything or you will be reinfected
why won't my laptop work?
Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits
