If you look at his needs for road trips and such, he might need a MP3 player (per say ) but could get by with a MP3 CD player. For example, like the Parasonic SLSX420 model. The thing was built like a rock, could take heavy abuse. It's like..30 bucks now, to get one gig will cost you a total of 3 bucks.

I think it even comes with an AC adapter so you can just stick it your car and play out load.

If you truly want a MP3 player, I'd say the Zune. 'tis only the best choice.

The ZuneHD is really something.
A worthy alternative to the iPod Touch.

i was rockin the ipod nano first gen. Def a banger. Lasted atleast two years of running almost 4 miles a day. Mac makes good products and has awesome cust. service. Anything breaks, they usually replace for only S n H. At least that's my experience with apple. I currently have an i-phone and use it congruently with my pc. I would agree with most of the posts on here about " what you're using it for" comments. But if your basing your purchase upon what player has the best home site for music purchase, it doesn't matter. The i-pod is an mp3 player so all mp3's will play and play correctly on all the apple products. Peace, DuBs, n chicken grease

Yea, the I-phone / I-touch is the way to go, I have found that adding Skype it becomes a free internet phone as well.

I've no experience with the Zune, but out of all the iPods I'd recommend the iPod touch if you intend to watch videos or use apps like games, etc. I have a nano too, and watching even music videos (or movies) on that is nowhere near as good as the touch. So in case you do want to watch movies or play games later on, its nice to keep that option open.

On an extended break.

I've got a Zune HD, and I reckon I love it. One of the reasons I didn't buy an iPod touch is iTunes. I've never really liked the iTunes interface.

Really gripes me the way Itunes forces you to put a credit card on file to make a purchase.

If I want to buy something I either use a I tunes card or I have to create a billing agreement then make my purchase...then cancel the billing agreement.

Well, the iTouch is 8GB at the minimum, but who really has 8GB of music? If you do, then I guess the iTouch isn't the right choice for you, but you can get one of the more pricy ones with more space. If you don't have that many songs, the iTouch is really the way to go. The video quality and the apps are truly amazing. Many people say Zunes are a lot better than iPods. That's true for most of the iPods, except the iTouch/iPhone. They are truly in their own category of MP3 players.

Hi Boise. I would probably go with the new 4G iTouch, since it has a camera and everything, but if you want something smaller I would recommend the new touch screen Nano or the Nano 5G which is also pretty good if you want a bigger one.

This has repeated Necro... I think.. Three months then two months then another three.
Well, to add to the deadness:
Ipod Classic has abnormal amounts of memory, if youre willing to pay alot
I dont have too much experience with an Ipod Nano, but my friend has had hers for over 3 year and it works fine.
Itouch is fragile, i think. but it has Alot of really fun, entertaining games that will keep you engaged for hours. :D

I would go for an MP3 player which will store and play your music files just like the Nano but for half the price. Also, by not buying a Nano you will avoid the terrible learning curve accociated with its convoluted, non-intuitive and subsequntly non-user friendly interface.

I'd say iPod Touch.

It goes up to 64 GB, it does video, music, and games. Also, with iPod Touch 4th Gen. you can take pictures and record videos in outstanding quality!

The Ipod Classic is really good one for purely listening music especially long trips plus the battery lasts really damn long if you use it for listening music. It can also play videos and view photos.
