Hi,

I have just re-installed my personal firewall Comodo Pro, and after the re-boot Comodo has started 'learning rules'.

However, when browsing the internet, an irritating application keeps trying to install every time a hit a link:
ScanSoft OmniPage SE 4.0

I have tried searching here, and also searching google to find out more about this application.

My questions:

What is it?
Is it safe?
Should I let it install or kill it?
If it is not safe, how can it be removed?

Thanks for any information!!

Michael

EDIT:

"Windows is trying to configure ScanSoft. Please enter disk or other source"
I do not have a disk or to my knowledge another source.
"Error 1706, No valid source could be found for product ScanSoft OmniPage SE 4.0. The windows installer cannot continue"

But each time I use the browser windows tries again to install, regardless.

Any solution for this proble, please?

As the post above suggests. its a version of the app software for a Cannon Scanner. If you have a cannon device and can verify its requesting the download (Task Manager might indicate it?) then it sounds legitimate but if not????

ScanSoft OmniPage SE 4.0 is a legitimate program, yet if you have no use for it, just go to Add/Remove Programs and find the uninstall option and remove from your system.

Possibly the program is currently installed and set to run at start-up and is trying to check for updates? either way it's not an essential piece of software, unless you have any need for it.

ahhhhhh......

Yes I have a Canon scanner, and the driver/software was probably disrupted by the other computer problems.
I also have a Canon S300 printer which I can't get to connect... but that's for another thread, maybe...

As it's legit and I have the disc, I'll try to finish the installing with disk. The problem may then be resolved.

Thanks for the tips... !!!

Michael.

Yes I realised that would need to be done...

I'll have to wait until my computer is free first though, 'cause it will need a re-boot, or at least have most other programs not running.

Thanks Mark.
