hello
i have been plagued by this problem for some months now and i am at my whits end !! i will explain the details as follows
my pc is self build and mainly used to run flight simulator and other flying programs both simulated and real world .
i had a sound problem after doing a reinstal and upgrade ( bigger hard drive x2 new video card more memory ) after doing this i had treible sound problems in flight simulator , so i did away with the inbuilt sound on the mother board ( i turned it off in the c moss ??) and installed a soundblaster live card , the previous problems dissapeard , however i now have the problem of the sound turning itself off which means i have top go into control panel , sound and audio devices and there is another mystery , sometimes the mute box is "not " ticked , but the sound is still off , i have to tick the box myself , untick and hit apply , after a few minitues of flying it happens again , but it is irregular sometimes every few minitues , sometimes not at all ?? .
i have tried changing the settings in sounds and audio but nothing !!
it is not restricted to flight simulator , sometimes it happens with media player , DIVIX etc .

this is driving me insane , please help , any advice gratefully appriciated
kind regards
Bryan

my pc spec is

INTEL PENTIUM 4 3.06 +GHZ/

Try unistalling the drivers for the audio, and reinstall the drivers that came on the CD that came with the sound card.

Hello welshpilot,

That is a strange problem, can you look in the event viewer which can be found in administrative tools in the control panel. Look for errors and warnings in the system and application groups. This may gve some clues as to whats causing the problem.
Let us know what you find.
Regards,

Alan.

hello gentlmen
sorry for the delay getting back to you both , thank you for your advice , regretably the suggestion of uninstalling and re installing the drvers has no effect thank you anyway .
as for Alan's suggestion WOW where do i start !! seem to have a lot of errors ,warnnings etc , all going back several months , however as i have no other problem (yet "") with the pc i have deleted all the warnings etc so i can start afresh next time it happens i shall post a screenshot so you can see and advise ?
let me know if this is ok? please
thank youagain

Instead of taking the screenshots of the event viewer, you can press the copy button (under the arrows) and then paste them here.

Alan.

Because the following involves making a change in the registry I would suggest backing up the registry so that if there is an error you will be able to restore it.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Error 1606: Could not access network location

Symptom

When you attempt to install an application which uses Windows Installer, you may encounter the following error:

Error 1606 Could not access network location %USERPROFILE%\RECENT\

Resolution

This may happen due to incorrect registry value type for Recent, in the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders

* Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
* Navigate to the above location
* In the right-pane, double-click Recent and set its data to:

%Userprofile%\Recent

Important: The Value type must be of REG_EXPAND_SZ type. If it is of REG_SZ type, delete the value, and then create a new value of the correct type.

* Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows.

Just my 2 cents?

I had a similar Problem, it turned out to be the Plug in from my Speakers wasn't making Contact?

Worth trying?

I jiggled the Plug until it made contact, Problem solved.

Speakers are quite inexpensive? Try another set of Speakers?

Can you try another set of Speakers?

I admit it is a long shot, but it just might work.
