Hi guys. I just reformatted my computer running Windows XP, and now I'm having trouble getting an internet connection (or any network connection) up. I was wondering if somebody could walk me through it. I usually only connect through wireless. Here is what device manager has an exclamation next to:

Other Devices:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Auto Controller
Network Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller
USB Controller
Video Controller

But, of course, I cannot update them without the Internet....Sorry if this is a silly question.

Uninstall them in Device Manager and reboot. Windows should detect and reininstall them. I'd do one at a time. That should get you going, then if you need to go the the mobo mfg's site and update

You'll need to download the drivers for your system from another machine. Windows only provides support for enough, basic drivers to get the machine started running Windows - after that you have to install drivers for those other, unknown devices.

At work we install the Ethernet controller so we can hook the system to the web, then use that system to download the rest of the drivers.

Thanks guys...It does say that I am still missing the Ethernet controller. I used a flash drive and downloaded most of the drives from my destop to laptop...still can't get on the Internet however. It shows a LAN connection, but says it's bridged. Also, I have a Acer Ferrari 3200, any idea which ethernet controller driver is the correct one for my machine? Thank you!

Acer has a website where you can download those drivers that are specifically for your laptop.

Go here:
http://us.acer.com/acereuro/page6.do?sp=pa...p;crc=790373818

Then click "Downloads" and follow the navigation and input your computer....Notebook > Ferrari 3200 > Then download and install the "802.11g Wireless LAN" driver, and the "Broadcom 5788" driver.
