Even though the BC Peliguin isn't gettin' much love around here,
I suggest we consider going beyond the
BC (Bleeping Computer) BS (Bumper Sticker).
Maybe this on the back of a t-shirt:

(about 10" high)
and this on the front over the left breast:

No worries - I'll keep the BC Peliguin happy.

Wow, almost a whole day and 27+ views and no responses or other suggestions.
(Well, I did get one PM.)
I guess that sends a signal to the site owners regarding whether the members would like BC t-shirts, etc.

Well,
I need the Bleeping Computer's site owner's permission.
Copywright stuff and all that, you know.
Maybe he wants only authorized designs, too.
Dunno.
I'm still taking care of the Peliguin while we wait.

How about keeping it simple like the BC BS, using machine embroidery:

I'm not enamored with using any mascot's representing the BC. Unless something very unique is concocted.
I especially don't care for messy birds. I don't think such represents what the members of the BC are trying to accomplish.
Find something else to represent the BC?

Oh, sure, now that we are getting serious, people start plucking the feathers off of the peliguin!

How about the back as shown above in post # 1,
and the front like what is shown in post # 8
except with the words "Free Computer help when you need it." and "bleepingcomputer.com" in the monitor?

The "BSOD" idea would be OK, except we also help Mac and Linux folks, and it may not be as suggestive for them.

My personal opinion....the design is a bit big.
Remember that putting something on the back will increase the price big-time.
Doing a classy, industrial machine embroidery on the left breast is standard for company Logo.
Maybe starting a Poll in a new thread with a few different designs might help get more input.

KoanYorel -
No worries, I'll keep the Peliguin to myself. FWIW, it's really not as messy as you might think.
I've contacted Grinler to insure what is done meets his approval.
I'll add the "copywright bleepingcomputer.com 2007" line at the bottom of both images, too, as soon as someone reminds me how to get the copywright symbol.

TMack -
I agree that embroidered looks great, especially on t-shirts with collars.
However, what I'm trying to set up will offer direct printing on both the front and the back, for as reasonable price as we can without one of us going into the t-shirt production, sales, and shipping business. (Do we have any volunteers?)
Also, we should be able to offer hats, coffee cups, etc. with little extra effort as a benefit for our members once we get rolling.
I'm simply offering my time (and whatever effort) is necessary to make this a possibility for the great folks on this board that might be interested.

JohnWho
Aug 12 2007, 07:32 PM
I understand, DSTM.
However, I've used the only image that we have here on BC - the blue man holding up the monitor. While we could no doubt come up with all sorts of other ideas, don't you think whatever we use should reflect the overall theme, colors, and images of the Bleeping Computer site?
I suppose one could say that the look of the board is somewhat bland, too. While I wasn't here during the early days of the board, I suspect that the primary purpose - to provide computer help - was more important than inventing original art and a color scheme that gives the board some other look.
I'm just trying to help come up with a concept that reflects the overall idea of the board as it is now. If the board owner wants to promote an effort to change the board graphics and colors, then I would think we need to wait on this idea until the new look is settled.
I'm just trying to help.

They both hava a phrase which says:
"From a bleeping computer to a working computer."
Works fine as a logo.
Might want to remove the black background for white t-shirts, though.
In my opinion, it would be good to show that phrase somewhere, and often on the site. (Not just in some member's signatures) This would give the phrase continuity between the site and items such as t-shirts, coffee cups, hats, etc.
Even the
"Free computer help when you need it."
phrase doesn't show up on the site pages.
That's what I made this from:

At least the "man holding monitor" shows up on most pages and helps provide a bit of "branding' for BC.

I like where this is going.... I think maybe having the man holding the computer but have springs and buttons popping out and have the "From a bleeping computer to a working computer" logo right beside it with the copyright info right under that, in smaller print. Then have the background that you have now there.
Just my idea.

I like the logo from post 26 with all the other OS symbols for the front may with somehing that says "Helping all users since (date site started)" as long as you can get permission and there will not be any copy right infringments i think it will look kind of nice

If the background is transparent, then there's still something screwy going on.
I changed the background color of Irfanview, and the logo still shows a black background.

Something else that's odd.
If I

If I
Save Image As..., it's got a white background.

OK, I've been communicating with Grinler, and a BC t-shirt is close to becoming a reality.
When I first began this quest, I looked through the various pages of the board, and could really only find the "branding" or identifying BC image of the blue man holding up the monitor at the top of each page. That is why I've kept it in the various proposed images so far. It also is as close to a "logo" as we have, especially with the "bleepingcomputer.com" text. (Take out the Peliguin in my signature image, and you see exactly what I'm talking about.)
As far as a "motto", or catch phrase, I've seen a few, but none that I felt certain was the "owner approved", official, one.
Examples I found:
"Free Computer help when you need it"
"You're bleepin' or you're weepin'"
and
"From a bleeping computer to a working computer"
Personally, I think the frist one - Free Computer help when you need it - most succinctly identifies the purpose and concept of the board, while the other two somewhat link the concept to the BleepingComputer name. Using Grinler's phrase from the images he posted:
On the t-shirt back, approximately 8 inches high:

and
on the t-shirt front over the left breast "pocket" area, about 3 inches wide:

Again, this conversation has now gone beyond the "wouldn't it be nice" stage to the "this is close to happening", so we'd like some serious input, remembering that we'd like to settle on one front and back design now. What happens further down the line in the future will be determined, possibly, by the response to this initial offering.

Maybe, if something is put in the one at the top of each page here on the site, then it would make sense to duplicate that on the shirts. Right now, it matches the logo here on the board.

Aug 16 2007, 02:11 PM

I can't answer that, looney2340.
I'm just a "man with a plan", but am not part of the official heirarchy of the site.
