i updates the bios on one of my computers then it wodent boot then thro trying a fue things i cleared the bios settings now when it turns on it tells me my cpu is new and i need to put in speeds and stuf but no matter what i put in as soon as i save it shuts off and wont start agen till i clear the settings agen

Have you tried both," restore default settings" in the BIOS and resetting the BIOS by removing the motherboard battery? Remember to reset the date and time when removing the battery

removing the battery was the first thing i tryed and was what made it boot in the first place but the defalt settings dont work it refuses to start but i didnt set the clock i didnt know that was manditory but didint help eather

I think if you tell us the make/model of that systemboard, and the CPU, we may be able to help further if you still are having a problem.

Is it safe to assume that this is from an old Sony? What model? What OS was on it? I found
this on Sony's site for your model mobo.

That is from the same system , it is a PCV-RX450 but the only ones i could find on that site were programs for xp or me and i was runing 98

You can use the one for ME The BIOS has nothing to do with the OS,per se. The OS will take advantage of what is written in the BIOS. For example CD drivers come to mind
