Im trying to transfer files from an XP hard drive to a Vista hard drive I can't gain permission from the file. I get an unknow owner s-1-5-21-1417001333-2111687655-1343024091-1004.rrr that I cant get rid of. I cant copy the files from on HD to the other. I hate the permission questions in Vista already but I'm willing to deal with it for now. I;m trying to move music and pictures. Im am the administator on Vista. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Generally, to assign permissions you'll have to have ownership of the file (this is just a very vague generalization, there are more ways to do this).

In order to take ownership, right click on the file/folder and select "Properties:
Then select the "Security" tab, then the "Advanced" button, then the "Owner" tab.
Then, click on the Edit button, OK the prompts to elevate.
Finally, click on the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" check box, then double click on your user name, then click OK. A dialog will pop up telling you to close the dialog to change permissions, click OK on it and you're done.
