Hello to everyone! gathering.gif

Just need a little help and assistance on a brand new HP notebook I just purchased yesterday. I was wondering if this would be the right place to ask if anyone could help me get rid of all the extra programs they put on the computer that I really don't need. The thing is, I'm not sure what is important and what can be just uninstalled. I just got it yesterday so all I have really done is setup my virus protection (McAfee through comcast) and internet access.

If any help can be given just let me know What I need to do next. Thanks for any help!!

I would certainly consider installing a good firewall as soon as possible.

If you were to list the programmes and applications that you are unsure about, I suspect our Members can recommend those that you can uninstall from the ones HP was nice enough to preload on your hard drive.

Cheers,

What kind of firewall would you recommend? Any good free ones that do a good job. My HP is running Vista Home Premium.

When I have notebook with me, I will list what programs are on the system...

Thanks

You can find several good Firewalls listed, here:

You can also set up Vista's own (free) firewall, by following the instructions here:

As far as removing the crud that comes with it, try this:

I tried to download this and run the program. I was able to download it ok, but as far as running the program, I was unable to on Windows Vista Home Premium. That screen that is supposed to appear with programs to be removed never pops up...Any suggestions?

If you have an anti virus installed, you need to disable it.
