There is no sound in Ubuntu 7.04. The speaker icon looks like it is muted, but when I try to change the volume it says "The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu."

Running it in Windows XP Pro, using VMWare Server Console.

Since you have not had a reply, it is safe to assume that not many people here use VMWare. Have you tried asking in the Ubuntu forums, or the VMWare forums?

My first solution for sound problems, is to run 'sudo alsaconf' from a console.
