Yes, you are right. To have IE7 you must has at least XP with SP2 installed. It will not run on a Windows 2000 or NT computer.

I am running Dial-a_fix software as I am typing. It's still running and doing "registering cryptext.dll". It's been doing that for a VERY long time. I get a feeling it's not gonna go further than that.

I let run Dial-a-Fix run overnight and it is still stuck at "registering cryptext.dll". The PC has this "cryptext.dll" file in C:\WINNT\System32 folder.

Any "all problems can be fixed" guys can respond?????? Without suggesting re-imaging the whole dog-on hard drive?

By the way, I tried doing the Windows update via Maxthon 1.5.9 (the latest version), and it also failed, but however it displays a different error number [Error number: 0x8007041D].

The link you posted does not work. I'll see if I can grab that dll from another Win2K box, but I am a bit sceptical that it will work.

I just clicked on it and it worked for me. When you open that page click the "Click Here to Download cryptext.dll" button.

I copied over new cryptext.dll to the problem PC, and it did not fix it.

This is more frustrating because I earned offense and ridicule from all those all problems can be fixed guys when I expressed my observation in the field that not all problems can be solved. Well, if you have resource to everything and everyone, maybe all problems can be solved, but that is not reality.

I humbly wish to say that you retain that kind of attitude that you can fix all problems, then you are likely to encounter more problems, work more and harder and earn less, and more likely to experience more stress/burn-out and even run increased jeopardy to your employment/livelihood.

However, I am still open to other suggestions because I don't like to give up. I am all ears even to all problems can be fixed guys.

If you have your Windows\restore CD try using the sfc.exe utility. You must have your disks to perform this function.

i was looking around the inet 4 you problem, and i found one person that did something to fix it. He tried to:


delete the file wup.dll in the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\SoftwareDistribution\Setup\ServiceStartup\wups.dll\5.8.0.2469

i would suggest you back up the dll file, delete it, and then try it. i found this on a posted comment on microsoft.com. Hope it helps!
