Just posting--finally--after having lurked (and learned) here for a couple years. Think I know enough about these bleeping machines to get myself into trouble (occasionally get out of it, too).
Alas, once the old man (dad) picked up a laptop--& who knows what else--it's time to finally admit defeat! ohmy.gif
Glad the site's here and so many knowledgeable folks are involved. Hope to one day return the favor/s! smile.gif

Cheers all,

Got my first 386 with 4MB RAM in 1993...maybe 1994.

Anyway, I remember that after I had used the PC for about a month (for WP, printing lables, games) I told my computer Guru bro-in-law that I had it figured out that someday computers would need at least 256 MB of RAM because of the eventual development of "hungry" games and graphics and sound files.

He told me I was nuts and didn't know what I was talking about.

He also told me there was no way to make the © sign...then I found the character map, and from then on I double-checked all of his advice.

I am a small-time music publisher and deal with songwriters and try to get their songs cut for them...not much success so far but I enjoy the chance to get in on the creative side of the business.

I went on the internet in 1996 or 1997, after upgrading to a 486...with more RAM (ha!)

Started making and sending .mp3 files of music then, and now most of my computer use is in the editing and conversion of raw wave files, digital graphics editing, watching stuff like CBSinnertube and playing around on MySpace.

I hate to IM, and usually offend someone when we IM for too long...my dry humor doesn't get across to most people through typing.

I still don't know how to install anything internal, but that is my next challenge.

I could be an instructor for raw beginners on Windows based PC's, but that is probably the extent of my technical know-how.

I'm a newbie, and usually not much of a forum poster. That is unless the particular thread/convo calls for it.

I stumbled upon this site (awesome name btw....have actually referred to a couple of previous systems as idiotic bleeping computers before), looking for a way to get rid of TrustIn Contextual, and Virtumonde. Thankfully the three day attack has now successfully come to a close.

I'm not a novice so to speak, I do have SOME knowledge of what to do and what not to do to a system, but I'm not an IT Wiz either. My dad considers me a hacker (honestly, you replace one modem and you're branded for life), but I'm not sure he knows what one is.

I usually refrain from cussing/swearing most of the time, and in the event that I do, I'm most often heard either saying "Mother Effer", or using Battlestar Galatica's version of the F word in some shape or form.

I"m a little on the shy side, but once you get to know me, I'm incredibly goofy, and even a little bit of a geek...

Whatelse....

OH! For those of you who look at my picture and think Im kinda familiar looking.....I was on the Tonight Show in 2005.

Anyways....I'm getting my usual feeling that I'm babbling at this point, so I'll hush now and go hide in a corner somewhere.

I guess if I'm here I know enough to get into trouble but not enough to get out of it.

wow, its amazing the places you find when you have one of those 3am too tired to sleep too tired to compute moments and actually click on something that you otherwise would have known to cancel out of cause your agreeing to install a ad ware, mal ware, or spy ware program.... so anywho, I have been brought here as part of my search to remove Virusprotectpro's fake windows system pop up device from my system, took me 3 days to get this far, lets hope the recommended tools will help.

Had to thank somebody, been struggling for a week, trying to get rid of ulitimatecleaner and all its dirty little buddies, I saw your site earlier, but was intimidated by the instructions. This morning I said hell with it and dove in. PEACE OF CAKE Can't thank you enough....
Lunatech
Time to say THANKS!

One of my PC's got infected with a trojan and McAfee Security Center kept finding, and removing, part of it, but it kept coming back on reboot. Tried AVG, it reported a different virus/trojan, also removed it, but it kept returning. Tried HJT, Spybot Search & Destroy, both found things but did not fix the cause. Then installed and ran ComboFix. Bingo. it found 144.exe, purged it, and the PC is clean again. I sent some $$ yesterday. Thanks for saving me, I'm getting real work done again.

I first found this site while Google searching for an answer to AIM6's iESHaZ+f9YLZ0J0IX/ur7A10+default error. I kept lurking for a while, and recently, decided to join and ask for some real help with things. Thanks to the efforts of the wonderful DaveM59, I am now free of a ton of Apropos C, that I had unwittingly been harboring for over two years! @.@;

I have recommended this site to both parents and several friends. The information and the dedicated team members on it are truly lifesavers. =D

Hi all

I just registered for this forum. I usually don't post to forums, but I had to say that I am really impressed with bleepingcomputer.com. I had to remove a trojan from a computer and did what I usually do, but it really didn't work. I searched the internet and found several solutions and when I found the solution posted here I was really impressed. It was very complete and solved the problem.

I am a computer professional and have worked on process control systems for many years, starting with computers as big as 2 refrigerators. In those days, I repaired boards and power supplies, etc. Now we just swap the whole computer. My job has moved from very technical repair to very technical software troubleshooting. I work on systems that control power plants, oil refineries, power plants, water treatment facilities, paper mills, etc.

Many times I have said "I hate computers", and sometimes it is true. I can understand the name that you use for your website. I have called computers a lot worse than that at times.

Thanks for the good work and a great troubleshooting site.

Sp0nge
I ended up here when I had a virus.. As it seems most people do.. so I got help and they fixed me, and then I was infected again, and I was fixed again, then I joined the HJT Team in order to fight back against these virus'.

Hi,
Checking in from the south east US. Just when I begin to think I know something about computers, something happens that I cannot fix. That's why I am glad you are all out there and spend your time helping.

I'm a California Sunshine girl with HP computers, so you know I have had problems and have learned much fixing them, LOL!! I've done a website for my husband (using a template) selling bass fishing lures and have utilized a forum to pick-up helpful hints, so I know I will learn much here. So glad I just "happened" upon this site.

Into each life, a little sunshine must come... along with Viruses, Spyware, Malware, and tracking cookies, I guess mad.gif

My last major virus event was the "Isreali Boot Virus" on my first PC in 1994. I guess I'm due for another. I've been using Norton, TrendMicro, ZoneAlarm, and Spyware Doctor to stay safe, but my luck may have run out.

Something's going on with my laptop, and after perusing the forums, I'm sure the amazing people here can help.

Cheers and keep up the good work!

Hello,
My name is William Johnson. I am new to this forum, and realy have never used a forum before. I subscribed because I would like to learn more about using Hijackthis. I understand that there is a class that I may take for learning how to use Hijackthis.
I have earned the COMPtia A+ certification as well as the MSDST certification. The more I learn the less I feel I know ! In order for me to feel that I am a competent tech I need to know how to use the tools properly. Please tell me how the class works and how to join.

G'day All,

Newly retired, from Down-under who finds himself somewhere on page 3 of "Getting that darn computer to really work for you..."

Sure to be in touch again soon, if I can only figure out how to actually send this post - here goes...

Cheers, Robert

Hi all. Interested amateur here - also DownUnder. I have a trojan and a hijacker turning up despite repeated attempts to "clean" my system. So, I'm doing the self-help thing ( actually, not so much "self" help as hoping to enjoy the benefit of everyone else's experiences and kindness in sharing it).

So, if I don't work it out myself, with the help of the many trusty tutorials and tips on this forum, I'm sure you'll see me posting before long with a cry for help.

thumbup.gif Hi there, I'm on the trail of a spyweare that got past, norton on a download. I put a search for the file that I didn't recognise in Google (concat-webauth.sql). I had done a defrag.. on my computer, (it was runnng slow), I had a fight with a virus, after going to a site (I can provide all my actions from going to it!) it couldn't defrag this part so, wanted to know what it was. My search brought this forum up. and already you have helped. I know its an intruder!!
I would love more help! but before that, Hello to everyone and although I am familiar with tell-tail signs of viruses and spy.. the solution often does not come so easily as delete!! Also i'm from the Uk ans see that others are from all over the world!! Cool!!

Hello,

I have a background in computer science however my education is fifteen years old...although I can always apply my education the fact is that it is outdated in todays computer field. I choose to raise my four daughters. In the past few years I found that I make more money in less time as a school bus driver than in the computer field...I was only interviewing at job levels below my education because I lacked the experience. I went back to school to upgrade my degree with a web design certificate...four classes to go! I am very creative and have a art and design background as well as digital photography. Web design is a great fit and I love it!

I also like to tinker around with my own computer, fix it, upgrade it and help out my friends. I lack security experience and the knowledge to maxiumize my computer in general. I have experience with both PC and Mac...prefer MAC but usually use the PC. When I went to school there was no internet...networking...or laptops for that matter. Money is an issue so the more I learn to do for myself the better.

I usually can figure most stuff out after some research...but I decided it would be nice to join a group of support...so here I am. thumbup.gif

HEY EVERYBODY, IM NEW HERE AND I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN HELP ME OUT. THANKS!

Hello all, I'm new here also. About all I know about computers is how to turn it on/off, check my email and browse other websites. Anything technocal, I have no blooming idea what anyone is talking about. I know what disk clean up is defrag, but I have no idea how to reformatt my computer or anything like that. I do get computer tips and all from worldstart.com and ask questions on their message board, but they are not always very helpful. I found this site through the Dell community message board, but if they don't have answers for me there, I sure hope I can find them here.
Happy Holidays.

So far it has worked for me, even though I have only been here for 3 minutes.

Hello -this is my first time posting to bleepingcomputer. I love this site. I've used it off and on over the years and have found the information here invaluable to understanding how this damn contraption works. Currently, I'm learning what to keep and not to keep at startup.

Thanks and hopefully with all of the faqs I won't need to ask any questions.
