Hi there.I am only new and also not too good with computers. We have a set up at home here with my sons desktop and me and my hubby have a wireless laptop each.My sons computer has a modem and router connected to it and we run our laptops wirelessly through my sons connection.
OK..here's what happened. We had no internet and found out the modem was dodgy. We got a fellow out to fix it and he replaced the modem and added the router. He said it would be better with a router. All good...except now my son can't get any webpages or maybe ony one or two.He can however receive emails.

He gets a message saying..page can't be displayed...or invalid syntax error. The laptops are working fine.
My question is how can he get emails but not webpages? blink.gif Is it just an adjustment it needs? Oh and he can't get MSN either and we have tried the repair thing on that but it didn't help.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am sick of him using my computer for msn!! dry.gif
Thanks in advance smile.gif

Emails come in on different "ports" than web surfing. It sounds as if there's an issue with the router blocking his web traffic - have you tried resetting the router to default values (you can find info on this from the documentation that came with the router). It may be that there's a setting in the router that needs to be changed.

Also, do you have any web-filtering software installed for him? This may need adjusting.

Since the connection works fine with the laptops, it's likely to be either an issue with how the wired signals are dealt with in the router - or an issue with something on his computer preventing access. Could even be a virus or spyware, so I'd also suggest scanning for that.

Thanks usasma. I have always thought it was something to do with the router as we didn't have it before and as soon as the computer tech guy left ,sons computer stuffed up.
I will have a fiddle with the settings and do virus scans and spyware checks as well.
I will come backe here tomorrow and let you know how it all went.
It bedtime here for this tired Aussie...so nite nite and thanks again usasma smile.gif
