Heyyyy
So I apologize like everyone else if this is in the wrong forum ...
I am on myspace and can't view the videos/songs on my page. It comes up with a message on the actual page which reads ...
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player. "
So, I click there and go through the process to download. I do everything it says to on the page and nothing happens. So, I went by myself to tucows.com to download it and couldn't find what I needed so I tried the JavaScript. All I knew to do was to go to control panel, internet options and everything that said Java disabled I turned to enabled and still it doesn't work.
Pleaseeee help.

I'm frustrated !

The usual fix for Adobe Flash Player is to uninstall ALL Adobe Flash players using the special uninstaller and reinstalling flash. The uninstaller is in the link below.
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase...cfm?id=tn_14157Also, check your Add/Remove program and remove any older versions of Macromedia flash.

Ok so I uninstalled. Now still clicking on the link that tells me to install (on myspace) doesn't work. The link opens but nothing starts to install.

Download site:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase...cfm?id=tn_19166You can also run the Secunia scan to find leftover flash files. Go to the file locations and delete them to the recycle bin.

What else have you done besides clicking on a download link? Have you reviewed ALL the trouble shooting info?
Did you run the Secunia scan?
skeney
May 4 2007, 01:43 PM
I tried to run Secunia but it came up saying ...
Status / Currently Processing:
There might be problems loading the Java Applet in your browser.
I read through the Troubleshooting but nothing seemed to apply. It's nothing to do with pop-ups etc. Just when I hit Install Now a new page comes up, there is a box with a red x and some instructions and nothing happens.

I think a popup blocker is the problem. You should be seeing a bar across the top of the active screen that asks if you want to allow popup. You can turn off the blocker in IE by clicking on tools and clicking on "turn off popup blocker". You may have other popup blockers such as ones in any browser addons such as Google tool bar. You could also be blocking popups with one of your security programs.
Also, check again the activex settings suggested in the trouble shooting check list.

There is no longer a pop up blocker ... there was one when I first has this problem but not anymore ...

Let's look at your security programs. Please list them (antispyware, antivirus, security suites) as to whether they are free or purchased. Also, list any addons you have in IE. Check to see if your Java is up to date.
(1.6 or later) That will be the next step to uninstall and reinstall Java.

This is all I could see in Add/Remove programs. Not sure how to tell if they are free or purchased but I presume Norton is the only purchased one. (not my PC)
Norton Antivirus 2002 Professional
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
Spyware Blaster v3.4
I also tried to download Java 6 Update 1 and got this message ...
DOWNLOAD using Internet Explorer browser
JAVA SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS
Download Details
FREE - Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 1
(filesize: ~7.1MB)
Approximate download times:
Low-bandwidth ~40 minutes
High-bandwidth ~ 3 minutes
We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine.
If you encounter an error, check the top of the browser (see image above) for a yellow bar that reads "This site might require the following ActiveX control: J2SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc.'. Click here to install..." Click the yellow bar and choose "Install ActiveX Control..." to allow installation to proceed.
I was not sure how to check if my current Java is uptodate though so maybe I need to uninstall first ...

If it is not your computer, are you sure you are using an admin account?
skeney
May 6 2007, 03:55 PM
I mean I didn't purchase it so I don't know what they bought for it but it is now mine to use ... and there isn't any different accounts on there ... just the one I am using ...

To check what version of Java you have, click start, click control panel, double click on Java. Select the general tab, click on "about". What version is it?
So, did you see a yellow bar asking you if you want to install an activex?
skeney
May 6 2007, 06:53 PM
Ok I have version 1.5.0 ... Java 2.
When I originally tried fixing this problem a yellow box would ccme up but it doesn't anymore. When it did appear I would click on it and hit allow but nothing ever happened then either.

Something is keeping you from installing activex. Norton could be the culprit. Is Norton still active? Does it update regularly? If you have not renewed it, it is best to uninstall. Below is a link to the Norton uninstaller. You can first try uninstalling Norton in safe mode using the Add/Remove program. If it is updating and you have renewed it, try exiting the program first and then try updating Java. There is an update tab in the control panel after you open Java.

The link below is to Windows updates. Windows will scan your computer and tell you what updates are needed.
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/...t.aspx?ln=en-usThat is good that you were able to update Java. Make sure that there are no flashplayers left on your computer and attempt to download flash again. Watch for the bar asking you to install activex.

Great! You are now without an antivirus program. There are a few free ones. The link below has a list of them. It is a list of free programs that the members here have tried and recommended. You also need to update Spyware Blaster and check to make sure Spybot is updated, also.
